Default What Am I Doing Wrong?

Not to sound crabby... OK I'm being crabby. I have sent PMs and emails to four CF vendors, Kerbeck, Stanford, EVS and Vettenet about getting a price on a new C6. I even called and left a message on a Vette salesmans voice mail to call me that I am interested on a car they have listed on this forum. Heck, I live within driving distance of Stanford and EVS. I started this a few days ago and as of right now I received two PMs back from the Vettenet with a note that he will send me some additional information and that was Tuesday. Nothing received from anybody, no calls, e-mails, PMs...NOTHING. The one thing I did get was from a guy that had a good deal on a car and saw my post to a CF vendor and contacted me.

What am I doing wrong? Is my money not good. Does my $40k not spend like other peoples? RANT, RANT, RANT...

There, I feel better. Thanks for listening...

Tire Guy and welcome,

I'm hoping that your timing might just be a little off. Remember that this is 4th of July week and many people take vacation this time of year. I know that this not a legitimate excuse in the business world but often, dealerships assign one person to internet sales. Give it a few more days. Many of the people that you mentioned have very good reputations and I find it very hard to believe that they would just ignore your repeated attempts to get in touch with them.

Seriously, you lost me at "hello":

1. $40K?
2. PM, email, messsage to multiple dealers...
3. Asking for "pricing"; not saying "Here are the particulars I want, here is what I will pay, can you sell me this car at this price now?"

Frankly, if I was a salesdude (I'm not) and got the odor of a 'price-determining (WTF?), multiple-simultaneous-feeler-placing, low-balling, non-specific, tire-kicking, anonymous messenger', you can bet I would not be one bit interested in returning a query. Time is money. You don't smell like serious. Not saying you aren't, just saying you are telegraphing all the wrong signals. IMHO. (You asked!)

I agree with Talon. I bought my Vette from EVS. One Saturday last December, my wife and I just decided to take a ride up there (I'm in Wheaton, outside of Chicago). Had a geat experience, got a great price, and left that afternoon ordering a new Vette. Try the telephone if you think the resposne on the net is too slow. Or, if you are in Chrystal Lake, drive on up. Regardless, don't give up. I'm sure someone will take your money.

Pick up the phone and call someone. Try Dave Salvatore at Kerbeck.

I agree w/ the above post though, it's 4th of July week, a lot of people are taking time off (at least in my business they are, my office is a ghost town).

I gave very specific details and left it open ended. $40k was just in general, I know it will be more. I guess I picked a bad week to get the money side settled. I am just looking to start a dialogue with all the wonderful guys that have been so helpful to so many on CF. I have money in hand and know what I want and I'm trying to deal with a CF vendor. Isn't that what a CF member is supposed to do?

Thanks for reply. Yeah, yeah -- start with supporting vendor, they are great. And $40K neighborhood is obtainable on a "pick it up, no hassles, in stock, gonna move it today" cah-n-carry type deal. That is exactly what I did on my own 1LT

But my point was that you gotta be determined, clear on what you want, willing to commit to a purchase if terms/car/delivery meets reasonable criteria. And you gotta advertise that fact, if true: "Dave, I really want a great deal -- anything less than $40 K OTD is what I need, but I am ready to buy today, have cash, color not an object, I will fly in and pick it up, no courtesy delivery to arrange or last minute bail out for R8C..."

If you are just 'shopping', expect salesman to smell it on ya and not bother.

Ordered from Rick Daniel @ Les Stanford Chevy a few days ago.(GMS Purchase as well) Returned EVERY call and is probably the most courtious salesman I've ever dealt with.

Will direct all family and friends his way. He IS setting the standard for greatness in car sales with his hospitality and professionalism.

Where did you read all that in the original post? I didn't get that drift at all! Please clue me in on all the cues I missed but you picked up on.

I paid $42,500 for my 2005 Coupe with, A4 F55, 3LT, Nav, custom chromes, KN intake, Tops and 6,100 mile on it... Granted, it was "used", but there you go... I was offered $48,000 the day after I got it..

Perhaps used is what you need to look at if 40k is what you have to spend

Unless it is a base, base, base model, I dont think you can get a 2006 for 40k.. I know.. I looked. Nationwide. Kerbeck was great, but the freight to Washington State was like $1,400 (for his stock units), and Carl Jackson was awesome and I pretty much had a deal with him on a 2006, Coupe A6 loaded..and then this 2005 popped up. Carl and Dave are great gentlemen, and do not even come close to what one would consider a "car salesman". Just real fair guys, doin their jobs. Call them.

In any case, good luck and get a vette soon!

I guess that is the part I don't get, as a salesman myself I know I have to cast a wide net and cast many times to make the sales. So even if I was a shopper doesn't it make sense that some enterprising salesman would notice that I am an informed CF member and give me the time of day? I will buy my new MR with auto and 2LT from someone... bank on it.

I'll do it just this once, but don't EVER come into my office and ask me about the business again, Kay.

[DISCLAIMER: I am going to be making ASSUMPTIONS like I am a salesman. These assumptions could be wrong, but will be triggered by cues from the generic 'customer'. I am not making judgments on the OP, just saying what a salesman *might* be hearing; all in an attempt to answer the question -- "Why were my efforts unsuccessful so far?"]
Not to sound crabby... OK I'm being crabby.
[salesman hears:]
A self-confessed PITA, and we are not even to the problem description yet. Diagnosis: This is gonna be a long day if I engage this yayhoo...

I have sent PMs and emails to four CF vendors, Kerbeck, Stanford, EVS and Vettenet
Chicks don't dig it when you tell 'em about who all you bumped uglies with last night. Salesmen are like chicks.

getting a price on a new C6.
[salesman thinks:]
Rest of phrases that history teaches us come up when the string on this particular model of GI Joe is pulled repeatedly:

"Just looking, thanks"

"Hey, my dad had one of those"

"My buddy got one for half that"

"I could buy one down the road for $5,000 lower"

"Okay, now I gotta see about a loan and a job from my pop"

I even called and left a message on a Vette salesmans voice mail to call me
[salesman considers:]
"Call me" equals "sign up for an hour of dialog with no close at the end"

Note the decided difference from:

"I am XXX YYY at VVV and have $45K to buy stock# 123456 that I saw on CF. If the car is still available please consider it sold, as I have financing and/or cash prearranged today! My number to confirm a deal is xxx-xxxx."

interested on a car they have listed on this forum

I am "interested" in J Lo, but something tells me we just ain't hooking up.

Heck, I live within driving distance of Stanford and EVS.
So that's a birthright guaranteeing instant recognition? Most forum sales are NOT local. So some local who wants to drift by and chat might not seem as exciting to the salesguy as it does to our intrepid shopper.

I started this a few days ago
Many serious CF consumers (and eventual buyers) lurk, study, and sharpen pencils for months before they POUNCE with authority when they see a deal that they want, now.

and as of right now I received two PMs back from the Vettenet with a note that he will send me some additional information and that was Tuesday.

Better results than I might expect.

Nothing received from anybody, no calls, e-mails, PMs...NOTHING.
Are you lonely for a friend, or a buyer ready to purchase a car?

It only takes ONE message from the right guy to close the deal, not a swarm of panting synchophants begging you to chat endlessly.

The one thing I did get was from a guy that had a good deal on a car and saw my post to a CF vendor and contacted me.
What we call a 'motivated seller'. Usually a reason for that.

What am I doing wrong?
Everything, as described above.

Is my money not good. Does my $40k not spend like other peoples? RANT, RANT, RANT...
Please read that. Do you think dangling a low ball price in front of people who get premiums on verts and Z06s all day long is an enticement, especially with attitude all over it, and the fact it is prospective, i.e. anyone can 'say' $40K. But is it in hand? Certified funds? Ready to wire? Or is it a "budget" you set in your mind, for an amount on which you think you can pay per month when you finally wander down to the savings and loan to ask for a loan officer?

There, I feel better. Thanks for listening...
I do too!

So, you see the clues now?
