I picked up my 2007 Z06 this past Monday, July 17th. The rear end was grinding Monday night with under 100 miles showing. There was no "spirited driving", just normal break-in driving on day one.

I would LOVE to take a couple of friends for a ride in my new "Supercar", but I'm a little embarrased about my $75K toy making this aweful sound.

I guess I'll have to set up an appointment with my dealer, drive 40 minutes each way to the dealer, wait while they do the service and then call them back when it, most likely, makes the same noise so they can start the clock on my 1000 mile requirement for the replacement of the clutches.

Nice!

First of all, congrats on the new ride. You did good. Please post some pics of that beauty as soon as possible and let us know about your dealer experience and what they advise.

As for me, I was just here contemplating my naval ... I had planned on taking mine in on Monday for this "problem?” However when going over the matter, currently, I experience the "growl" only once per day on average.
In the morning when I back out of the driveway and make my 30-mile commute to work, there is zero noise, with the exception of last weekend when it growled at me real bad throughout the day. Other than that, it only growls momentarily when pulling out of a parking space in the parking garage at work, which is once every day after leaving work. For what it is worth, I back into that space each day. (neither here-nor-there_)
As for the "thump" when making left hand turns from a stop, well this seems to have diminished somewhat as well over the past several days.
I tried to duplicate the problem(s) this evening and was unsuccessful.
If I were to take it to the dealer, I am certain that they would tell me they could not find a problem, make the matter even worse, or screw something else up in the process...
So based on that, I will not be taking the beast in any time soon. Instead I will be researching the extended warranty program and possibly consider that as my back-up in the event something major happens.
If there is anyone out there who can shed some light in the mysteries of limited slip differential's on Vette's and share them with us, I think it would be greatly appreciated.

no i didn't change nothing after or before break in. except oil and filter. took it to dealer they put in the first fix drain refill and additive. went home next day went out no noise this time before i got home i did 15 figure 8s then went on an abandon parking lot. adjusted both mirrows down and in can see both rims perfect. power braked it both tires spin so it did not lubricate posi to the point of slippage.

So dealership did first rear diff. change after break-in and this happened? Then it is true ?? "If it ain't broke don't fix it"? Had you had them not do anything everything would be fine now?

When you took it to the dealer, did you or they have to duplicate the noise begore they proceeded with the fluid change and additive?
I'm still considering taking mine in this week...

I took it in earlier in the week to the dealer. They added the additive and I no longer hear that growling noise... Let's hope it stays this way.

Sure do! Owned 3 cars with 'em back in the 60's and 70's and short of a tactical nuclear round, you can't kill 'em!

Unsolicited Update:

Its been 10 days since my 2nd fluid change and the grinding is still unbearable. Now I have noticed a pronounced vibration in the clutch pedal shortly after the friction point through full engagement. I don't remember feeling the clutch pedal shimmy so much before... have you all experienced this? Do your "normal" clutch pedals vibrate noticeably? The clutch pedal vibrates even when moving straight forward. The grinding is when I turn ever so slightly, worsening with the sharpness of the turn angle. I'm actually uneasy about driving my car in its current state and I have my 3rd service visit scheduled for Monday morning. They are going to put me in a rental and open up the back end again.

Happy Side Note:

I was in Vegas this weekend, and there was a C6 Z06 as a prize in one of the casinos. Granted, I have a "regular" C6, but it made me feel good about my C6 back home in my garage. When I drove my Acura, I never saw one offered as a slot machine prize. I also wasn't asked to be in any parades with the Acura...

So luckily it was just a matter of adding the friction modifier.

Good luck on the fix and let us know how it turns out.
I have to wonder now is this a common problem with the C-6 Corvette?

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the GTO forums also have seen alot of Diff failures. Changing the fluid doesn't seem to do anything but provide a false sense of hope as the problem will reappear.

Same engine but do they share the same rear ends? I have seen how rough those GTO people drive and are hard on their cars.

Well, the dealership needs my car an additional 5 days on top of the 3 that they've had it... still no official diagnosis, but boy is the Buick LaCrosse that they loaned me sweet! I can't wait to get my car back!

The Buick that was loaned to you does it have the "sound package" where it keeps out all noise?
