When posting your answer to this question, would you all be so kind as to answer whether or not your have the nav system (so its not just hearsay), and what % tint you actually have. That way the OP will know exactly what kind of data he is working with. Thank you.
Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, I just would really like to know also.
35% sides, 20% rear. I have the Nav. Absolutely no problems. Carbon based tint from 3M. Full lifetime warranty against fading, color change, bubbling, etc.
I have non metallic, darkest tint allowed by Texas law. No problems at all with Nav. Nav antenna is located where inside rear view mirror attaches to windshield.

I can never get over how gorgeous your car looks, no matter how many times I see pics of it on this site. What a beautiful deep color, impecable rims, and a great tint job. I'm jealous!!!

Thanks! Since that photo, I've painted my calipers to match the car and added multicolor Corvette logos (from Pipedreams before GM threatened him) to the wheel center caps.
The NAV antenna is up front UNDER the dash and it receives its signal down through the front windshield.
As long as you don’t tint the front with metallic tint you shouldn’t have a problem.
My sides and rear are tinted with metallic tint and the NAV works just fine.
Either I've missed something essential in reading this thread or I've totally misunderstood something fundamental about the Nav system. We are talking about the navigation system.... aren't we?
Why would light or how dark the window tinting is in any way effect navigation system. Isn't it GPS based?
If the antenna is inside, even metal based films would have a minuscule effect by attenuating the RF signal, but with a few microns of mettle in the film it should have almost zero effect. That's if the antenna is inside but it's my understanding that the antenna is in the passenger side mirror, if so the question is moot.
Have I made a big mistake or is there something I don't know about this?

The GPS Nav antenna is under the dash pad just above the center A/C vents. The XM antenna is what moved to the outside mirrors in 06.
The GPS signal has to travel 12,000 miles (or more) to reach the GPS antenna. The signals are very weak by the time they reach your car. It doesn't take much extra loss for the GPS receiver to be unable to achieve a lock. Metallic tint does have significantly more attenuation at GPS frequencies than no tint or ceramic tint. It can be an issue, depending on the geometry at any particular time. That's why GM warns you about it.
