Default problem with threads?

I don't see pics, or the icons like smiley faces etc, only text. Do I have something set up wrong on my computer that won't allow display of this stuff. Main page seems fine, but go the the forums and no dice. Thanks for any help given. John

My car won't start, what's wrong with it?

You gave us about the same amount of information to diagnose your problem.

What operating system, what browser? What programs have you installed since the last times those things all worked correctly? What settings have you manually changed in your browser?

Everything's working fine for me. I did have problems switching from the OT section to this one a few minutes ago, but everything else seems to be okay for me.

The computer is running windows nt, using microsoft internet explorer, no programs recently installed, nothing changed in settings. This is a computer at work, has never displayed photos or icons, etc. I suspect the vendor of the system has disabled this stuff for unknown reasons. Thanks, JWB

Go to "User CP" and see how your options are set up in your preferences.

Seeing avatars is optional. Some people have billboards for avatars, and I deliberately have mine set up not to see them. This allows me to maximize the number of threads per page; five threads per page with huge nonsense avatars blows.

Some features like posting attachments is reserved for paying customers; what you can do is shown at the bottom of every page.

Why, of course the following statement has nothing to do with it at all:
This is a computer at work, has never displayed photos or icons, etc. I suspect the vendor of the system has disabled this stuff for unknown reasons.
jwbert, I think JmpnJckFlsh is right. I don't know enough about the titles of some of those settings vs what they do to be much help, but maybe some experimenting is in order.

Guys, thanks for trying, I went to another computer and all is fine. The system I was on has a propriatary OS (modified NT) and for protection of the software I think a lot of internet capabilites are blocked.

I don't know about right...it's just something to check. It's impossible to explain some things that happen in cyberworld to reset parameters...I quit thinking about it, and just try to figure it out how to fix it.

Sometimes I don't get pictures either...primarily when the thread shows attached thumbnails. I figure the poster did something different, or I don't have enough big stars, or my firewalls are prejudiced against the poster, or...WIHK (who in hell knows). I forget about it and move to the next thread.

you might want to check on the Tools menu of Internet Explorer, under Options, go to the Advanced tab and look for something like 'display pictures' and make sure it's checked.
