Seriously, that's the only "special" tool they need. Any mechanic who doesn't already own at least 3 torque wrenches shouldn't be allowed near your car.
But better still, take it to a competent shop and have them pin the harmonic dampener to the crank. Keyed dampeners worked without fail for 40,000,000 previous generation small blocks. GM decided to save 5 cents, and now we have dampeners that unscrew themselves, fancy diamond washer or not.

My car is the 05 with an automatic transmission.
What's this about Pinning the balancer? Would the dealer do that for me? It would sure be nice if they would, so I wouldn't have to take it elsewhere to mess with. Does it have to be balanced differently to put the pin in place? Why don't they Key the thing so it it can't rotate or back out? Seems like some old time practices would cure the problem for them.
