I'll be 60 next birthday and I've had at least one ultra high performance car in my garage since I was 18 years old. Some were scary fast ( my 944 hybrid) and many were stupid fast (660 hp '70 vette). My C6 is the first car to ever have any type of computer control for traction or handling assist. My ol' right foot has taken care of this issue for over 40years and has always, along with assistance from my buttochs, been up to the task. The first thing I do is turn off active handling and TC when I start the car, usually before I even back it out of the garage. If I can find a way to permanately disable it, it's gone. AH and TC is for wannabee's!
I take traction control off once in awhile but not active handling...not even on the road course for now. On the C5, the TC would sometimes shut the engine down when the tires spun on a bump, but taking TC off would keep the engine running in those instances. If I was pushing into a corner, howevver, the AH would activate.
The C6 isn't as intrusive and for me that's even more reason to leave the AH on, though I have run it a few times in competitive mode. But be very careful on the Z51 tires when cold. Twice I broke them loose when they were cold...though they are really great when warm.

I must say I'm surprised by the conservativism here. I wonder what the guys who drive big block c3s would say about the need for traction control.
I drove a 454 in a 69 Camaro for 6 years, so no stranger to power and breaking traction. I have no problem with electronic angels looking over my shoulder as long as I have the ability to turn them off as desired.
What is the difference between traction control on verses competative driving mode anyways?
This is what I've been wondering too.... I heard so many bad things happening when it's off that I don't dare doing it.
Is it really that dangerous to be driving without these?
I wish I could test the same curves at the same speed with an without the assistance. I just don't have a place where I can do that safely.
how fast are people driving that they are scared to take off the traction control. i never drive with it on and I drive fast. seems to me the faster u can take corners the better u should be, meaning you wouldnt want the car doing any of the driving for you
