Default Ash Tray fix for C6...

I have an 07 coupe and the damned ashtray opens every few seconds!!! I just can't believe this..........called the dealer and the service manager said there was a 'fix' coming at the first of the month for this. Guess I'll tape it shut until then!!

There may have been a previous 'FIX' for this, but apparently it wasn't to good, because August 1st GM is releasing another fix. My service dept mgr said to call him on the 1st and he would order the part without me having to come in and have them check it out.....

It seems GM bought way too many glue kits (for "fixing" the roofs). So, now they plan to use them to "fix" the ashtray doors that pop open by gluing them shut. Just park it outside in high temperatures and humidity if you want to open the ashtray after the "fix".

Looking forward to that. I hope it's something we can do ourselves and keep the service dept out of it.

I thought there was already a fix? Someone (sorry, I forgot who) addressed this on another ashtray thread and told of how he took it into the dealer and they replaced a simple minor part that did the trick. As for me, I also experience the open-whenever-I-please ashtray.

Caught your edit: I had been doing a search and it appears you are right; to a large degree the "fixes" were not satisfactory.

I wonder why it wasn't taken care of in 2006?

GM had bigger fish to fry in '06......I doubt the ashtray ranked as high a priority as some of their other QC problems!

I have had only one problem on my C6, that I have had for 3.5 months, the Ashtray Door staying closed. My dealer ordered a replacement part # 10376446. They replaced the defective part with the new part, and the ashtray door has not dropped down ever since. The latch now works correctly. Car is 100% now.

I guess a LOT of them are no good (mine is crap too).

The fix must be that GM upgraded to 75 cent ashtray assembly from the 30 cent part they currently have on there.
