Default My last thought...

Yes the fat a** back exterior only cosmetically improved by GM yet the front is radically improved in my opinion.

400 hp is respectable yet some family cars have more
500 hp is what a Vette should have
600+ hp is what I want.

"I hope you ordered a color you hate so you can keep the streak alive. Why in gods name are you going ahead with the purchase?"

I ordered white with dual tone red-ebony interior. It's what I liked. I'm buying it because I like a Vette's look regardless of the new higher stance. And it's still the best car I can buy for both performance and value. Does that mean I prefer the higher stance. NO! Does that mean I like a fat a** car? NO.

I ordered the best American performance car offered.

Yet I'm not happy with what our American engineering and industry has to offer. In my opinion, we should rule! Instead of accepting what is offered as the "best we can do"

Some family cars might have close to 400hp now (I'm sure you're referring to some of the new Chrysler products) but they are also 4000lb plus behemoths!

Horsepower is only one part of the equation, the horsepower to weight ratio of the C6 is excellent. There are a select few production cars which can run mid 12s in the quarter mile, and those that do cost way more than the Corvette! (I'm pretty sure that no new car right off the showroom floor today can outrun the C6 in the quarter mile for less $$)

I think the performance of the C6 is an absolute bargain. Sure, 425hp or more out of the base model would be nice, and I'm never one to turn down more power, but at the same time I could be 100% happy with a 400hp C6 and I wouldn't feel a big need to modify it right away. It's plenty fast for everyday driving.

You're talking out of both sides of your mouth (there is another anatomical analogy available, but not appropriate here). All cars have pluses and minuses. You have to choose what is important to you in an automobile. I'm not convinced that you are going to be happy with a Corvette, no matter what you say.

Maybe you'd be happier with a Viper, or a Porsche 911 Turbo, or a Ferrari. Or maybe, a 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck with a camper shell to tow your boat. Only you and your psychologist know for sure.

I have no idea what this post is referring to (it would be proper to provide a link if you are referring to another thread). But let me make a simple response. If you don't like the Corvette, and are not happy that it does not have enough horsepower or that it is not engineered the way you want - go buy something else.

You think it should have 500 hp? Do your f___ing homework. There is a 500 (actually 505) hp Corvette. Want 600hp. Great. Mercedes, Porsche and Ferrari have all made 600 hp cars (and Lamborghini is about to). Go pick up one of those puppies.

Patman,

Of course power-to-weight = performance. Do you think 400 hp with 31** etc. lbs rules? I think not. Plenty fast? That depends on what you expect or are used to. I'm not putting down the C6. I have one on order. But will I be esctatic with performance and rave about power to weight? I think not.

Instead, I think by now the C6 should be over 400 hp but that's just my opinion. But my opinion tends to get locked down.

I have owned a lot of performance cars in my life, the quickest of which was a supercharged Mustang GT which ran 12.16 at 112mph. So I'm no stranger to fast cars. And I still say that if you've got a car that runs mid 12s out of the box, that's plenty fast. And if it's not fast enough for you, that's what the aftermarket is for.

Name one car out there right now which will run quicker than 12.5 in the quarter mile and costs less than the C6. I sure can't think of any.

The new Shelby costs more than a C6 Z06 and is slower than a plain C6.

Good Lord there have been some strange posts lately on this forum. Maybe if we all ignored them and noone answered they would go away to another forum and waste someone else's time.

I have taken many of my friends for a ride in this car. Guys and girls and I get the same reaction from all of them. They all state that it is the fastest thing they have ever sat in and when you jump on it from a standing start there like HOLY SH** this thing is fast. Yes more hp would be nice but how much quicker do you need to be. I was planning on the Z-06 but just could not live with the fact of just being able to roll down 2 windows and no open air. I have a pickup I can do that in. Went with the vert and if mods are in the future it will have close to or as much hp as the Z and its still a vert. To each his own and it what you like and want to drive. They are all fast enough for the street, with the traffic these days you can't use it all anyway. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy them all and by all means have fun and enjoy the stares from others looking at these bad *** rides . There are plenty to go around!!!!!

Look, a tremendous amount depends on a cars weight. A lower weight car accelerates faster, stops quicker, and handles curves easier.

Both the new Ford Mustang 500 and the Dodge Charger produce 500 and 420 respectively for about the same money. Guess what, they are slower on the track and 0->60.

This is why some people are so excited by the new Lotus and Ariel Atoms. The Ariel Atom can do 0->60 in 2.4. Only it's lack of HP keeps it from racing with the truely big boys as acceleration quickly drops off.

The corvette is also extremely aerodynamic. There's a reason why people put up with scrapping air dams. It makes the car more stable at high speed, and more able to get to those high speeds.

Plus the corvette has a pretty much FLAT power curve. When you start shoving on extra valves and turbo chargers etc your true power band is reduced.

What does this all mean? It means you get an awesome car that takes off like a bat out of heck, and hugs the curves w/o question. It also keeps up with the older vipers on the track because it's easier to drive for noobs.

We're not saying we have the end all be all of cars. But we dearly love the corvette for this reason.

All cars have pluses and minuses. Duh. Excuse me, I do choose what I like in a automobile don't lecture me. I've owned a Vette for 8 years now. Does that mean I'm satisfied with it's power? No. Do you feel my post was a put-down of your choice of vehicle? If so, maybe you need a psychologist.

BTW, I do have a truck to pull the boat, has nothing to do with what I posted about power and performance or Corvettes. Not that you'd know.

I asked in your last thread, I'll ask again here:

So, as I read your two threads this morning, I gather the following:

- You have an '07 Corvette on order that

- You find sits too high.

- Has poor (to your tastes) exterior styling.

- Is little improved over the self-proclaimed "J-Lo styling" of the C5.

- Doesn't have enough power.

- Is gimmicky (your commented "widgets")

- You'd like it to be as fast as your jet boat or faster.

I hope you ordered a color you hate so you can keep the streak alive. Why in gods name are you going ahead with the purchase?
