Never spin the tires???????? HMmmmmmmm well, before I had the melrose headers, random hi flo cats and x-pipe installed with the Calloway Honker, I just disengaged the traction control and from a dead stop, punched it and just held it down to the floor. the car immediately spun the tires so much it traveled sideways to the right and I had to let off the gas pedal before the car spun all the way around. At some point I couldn't control the car from spinning sideways and had no choice but to let off the gas pedal. That was with a 2:73 gear ratio.
Then after I had the above items installed and swapped out the 2:73 with a brand new C6 2005 3:42 ratio, broke it in for 300 miles and then had the car dyno tuned. now it's unbelievable the power it has! when either I shift the auto shifter manually or let it go automatically, not only do i get rubber out of the 1-2 shift, but the car still swings to the right but it comes right back in line! I love my A4 and have nooooo complaints. Next mod will be adjustable rocker arms, heavy duty springs and rods; then a mild cam later. I guess you drove a bad A4?

I have a FAST A4/3.15 Convertible (12.57@110.67).

I think the A6 is slightly faster by about 0.1 and 1mph.

I also think from a roll the better gearing and extra gears of the A6 will prove superior.

As far as SOTP feel goes, the manual tranny feels MUCH FASTER than any automatic can ever feel, but that does not always mean it will win a race vs an automatic.

Is the manual faster, YES, but only if driven well.

In identically powered cars, wouldn't the A4 be quicker (straight line stuff) than the A6 since lighter cars benefit more from having less shifting?

I thought that was the one of the main reasons many race cars/dragsters used powerglide transmissions (2 speed) since a powerglide is most useful in light cars with high horsepower to weight ratio.

...and this isn't to say one is superior to another, just curious if this same theory applies in this application

In a 0-60 or 1/4 mile sprint, the A6 has a slight gearing advantage (overall, deeper first gear and third gear) that seems to be almost cancelled by the tighter torque converter on the A6.

From a roll the A6 usually is quicker because it has fewer bog points than the A4.

On a road course or twisty country road, the A6 is much nicer because of the extra gears and especially the paddle shifter that makes using them so easy. Or if you don't want to shift it for yourself, the A6 will make partial throttle downshifts that are almost undetectable. Adding throttle to the A4 results in nothing-nothing-nothing-WHAM. Makes you look like a 16 year old dork.

The A4 in the 2005 cars was significantly redesigned for the higher power, and there have been problems with that tranny just like the A6. The long term durability of both is still unproven.

Most important; if you want a drag racer then the Corvette is not your best choice. It'll do OK, but ther are other cars that adapt to that use more easily. What makes the Corvette, and especially the A6, so nice is the combination of power + handling + comfort.

blznsdl -

Magnaflow #15884 catback only, but it is not worth any power.

My 2005 C6 Vert is a true stripper, no mods that add weight...

Only mods are Velocity Yellow paint, polished rims, and a 3.15 rear.

My new 2006 Coupe has NO OPTIONS at all.
