Well I got a screw in one of my rear tires. I would like to just jack it up and pull the tire and take the tire down to the shop to get fixed is there any problem with putting a floor jack under the rear diff and lifting from there? I know there are a lot of threads about lifting the C6 but they seem to involve lifting bars and such so I didn't know if this was a good lifting point. I am still to used to all the old cars with solid axles and we always lifted them this way. I just don't want to cause any undue stress on the drive train.
I used to do that on my C5 with no adverse effects. That said, what I have read about the C6 makes me leery of doing that. I have a beam that I will use, but you should be able to put a 2x4 on the suspension mount and do the same thing. There are some great pics on this forum of exactly where to lift.
Do not lift it at any points other than those shown below:
At $7.00 a puck get 4 of them it worth it go down to your local BMW yes BMW parts dept. and get 4 of these pucks as they are perfect for the Corvette and you can leave them on. Can't remember part number but I'm sure it is in here if you do a search.

Must be a BMW tax as well...just called the local dealer and they want $14/puck and they don't have them in stock...used the part # from routesixtysix ...Part # 51 71 1 960 752
I have the jacking pads but haven't been under to see where they go. Looking from the side it looks like four spots with tape or something covering the holes. Are they the black spots shown?

Place a foot or so length of 2x4 on your floor jack to spread the load across the rear cross member (furtherest part toward the back of the car) and jack away. Be sure to block the front wheels. No adverse effects if you are careful. Have jacked mine this way numerous times with no problems (even left it jacked for several hours like you are wanting to do to get my rear tire repaired). See the Bugman's website for great pictures on this technique http://81x.com/bugman/c6. Down the road, it might pay off to make yourself a set of jacking pucks (also shown on Bugman's site) or buy the BMW pucks (but so far, I have had no problems jacking either the front or the rear of my C6 using the Bugman's techniques). They found out when I went to pick mine up about a year ago the parts person told me someone with a Corvette just bought some so he was surprised. I believe there are two types also.

Yes, the jack pucks go where the black spots are. If you look under the car, you should see the slots:
Elite Engineering makes the "Cadillac" of Corvette jacking pucks:

What floor jack do you use? Do you have to drive up on wood bocks for the front?

I have a set. You don't need the part number, just ask the BMW parts dept for a set of lifting pucks. Order from Bavarian Motorworks on line too.

I needed to drive the front up on blocks to get a floor jack under the side of the car. My next purchase will be a low-profile jack, I hope that helps. I just lowered the car tonight so getting it back off the blocks was interesting. I'm also looking at different lifts for the garage - from what I've seen I'm going to be driving on blocks just to get the lift arms under the car as well.

I use an old 2 ton floor jack I've had for almost 25 years. Bought it at some auto store like Pep Boys. Very cheap...works like a charm. Yes, I drive it up on a pair of 2x6s before jacking the front, and place a 2x4 on the jack to spread the load on the front cross member.
