About 8 to 12 hours, makes no difference if it's a Z06 or not. Some have reported same day build. Guess if your frame starts down the line first thing, they could have it done the same day.
For just assembly, others can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is about 36 hours. I have been to the BG assembly plant. Really cool to see the synchrinization of everything. It is like a finely tuned orchestra. Really something to see.
I wish I could of videotaped it. That cool. I have already forgotten the exact time your car is actually on line. It wasn't that long though 36-48 hours.

I had it in my head as about 30 hours and had typed that out but then saw AF Vette's 8 and figured my memory was bad as usual. An e-mail from Kevin or something told me that it goes on the line one day and is finished the next. I think Corvette is a single shift so what the 8 vs 30-something hours could be is actual work time versus real time.
Based on my experience at the BG factory - from the moment the first item is created in connection with a sequence number, until the finsihed car drives off on its own power - takes approx. 31 hours.
IMO the people at BG for the most part take the parts coming from elsewhere and put them together. I don't know exactly what they 'build' at BG. Seems I heard they do the frame and body panels plus other items.
However, of course, all the engines come from a foreign country as with the 6 speed.
So , IMO, to the 20,30,0r 40 hours it takes to assemble a vette at BG should be added a list of the hours required to actually 'build' the parts and assemblies.
Also interesting would be the country of origin of all the parts and union/non union factor. IMO for the most part BG is a collection point from many places where things are actually built.
More time to 'build' a Z06? Why should it take more time at BG? The engine comes from elsewhere etc etc. they just put the Z06s together same as the C6s. All that 'hand building' of the Z06 engine is time spent at another site ( when will that go offshore too?)
I don't mean to deprecate BG but it would be interesting to know how many hours total it takes to do all the manufacturing AND assembly required to end up with a C6.

That actually seems like a long time to build a car. Does this count assembling the engine and tranny, etc? What are some of the major steps involved for those who remember the tour?
As I was told at the plant, as you look at the line you will a number of coupes or Z06s' in a row, but you will never see more than one convertable intermixed between coupes and Z06's. That is because the convertable top takes more time to install and so as to not slow down the line you will never see two or more convertables in a row on the assembly line. This allows them to catch up before he next convertable comes along. So I guess convertables take a little more time to build than the coupe or Z06, but not much!

Trannys and engines are shipped in. Engines LS2 come from a Canadian assembly plant. zo6 engines are hand built in MI. Everything is there in BG, just a matter of assemblying each component. It would be interesting to know the total build time. Assembly of frame, assembly of engine and so on. On the tour we started with a frame. I believe the frames are assembled by robots. I know the panels are painted by robots. Only robots I seen, besides the assembly line itself, were windshield glue robots.
It would also be interestiing to know the breakdown of cost on these things. How much in parts, labor, design etc does it really cost.
Going back down for the "public tour" this winter, when my Vette is napping.
80% North American parts to answer someone elses q.
The moving time of the line, from the time the frame first goes on the line until it is driven off complete, is about 18 hours. Lunch, coffee breaks and line stoppage add to the length of time the car is on the line but, of course, the line is not moving at those times.
Wow, I thought it took a few days, possibly a week to build a C6. I didn't know all the parts were assembled that quickly, I would feel better if my Corvette took a week to build rather then 18 hours, you know what I mean. But I know our friends down in Bowling Green do a SUPERB job!
Does anybody know how long it takes to build other sports cars like the Vipers, Porsches, and such?
