It's my '05 6 sp manual......about 25% of the time getting it into first either requires either a very serious (often repeated) shove or I just take off in second to avoid the pleasant sound of honking horns....

Occasionally reverse can be similarly tough

She's got all of 3400 miles......

Is it something I said?

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

Have you tried going to 2nd, then back to first? Some had a problem if they were trying to go from neutral to first. Others have reported the same problem. Don't know about reverse. Didn't have any problems with mine when I had it.

yup, both suggestions work most of the time....just wondering if it:

a. Will loosen up some more
b. Consider changing tranny fluid
c. Cuss repeatedly

I have an 05 with a 6 speed. Have had the same problem. The car is currently at the dealer and wanted this and several other items looked at. So far the response is "the transmission works fine". I have been pushing the issue and will let you know if I'm successful.

It's called first gear lock out and I had the same problem. There is a TSB out and dealer fixed the problem.
I don't know the TSB# but I do know it's called first gear lock out.
Dealer repaired and is fine now.

I had the same problem and replaced the transmission fluid with Royal Purple Synchromax manual transmission fluid. Saw an immediate improvement. Still not Porsche smooth, but much better. Search the forum on this product for more info.

I haven't forgotten about you. I have yet to get my car back from the dealer. It has been 2 weeks. I found on the forum search a posting by houston_aggie dated 8/13/06. I copied it and will forward it to the dealer. I'll let you know.

Just got the car back. 4 weeks at the dealership. Nothing was done to the transmission. Told it was "operating as designed". I have a VP friend at GM in Detroit. He recommends going to another dealership and if unsuccessful, he will get involved. I'll keep you up to date.

Had that problem with the C5. Royal Purple did not make it go away (good stuff otherwise though!)

Double clutching always worked for me.

I used to have same issues. I switched to a shifter by MTI racing. Best 200.00 mod out there. Shifitng is short and firm. No more missing third from second and racing in the twisties on a short apex, it slaps down into first as easily as 6th to fith.

Change your shifter. people also like the Hurst and the Calloway.

If you have any problem with the dealer print this out. It should shut the dealer up immediately. Please notice the PIP #'s

Welcome to the world of the T56 transmission. They are known for that problem, and it should get worse when it gets cold outside. My CTS-V had the same problem> I'm pretty sure I read that the Vuper uses the same tranny and also has those problems. So far my 07 is stiff, but not hard to get into gear.

There was a bulletin on this way back. If you encounter trouble engaging 1st more often than 10-15% (I think) of the time, then it is considered abnormal, and there is an adjustment that can be made. This is common with any manual tranny.
