MP3 Format questions
I have been trying to burn new disks but have been having issue with Nero burned disks using Sony CD-R 700 disks.
I have tried no sub directories and with sub directories, and ONLY MP3s on the disk.
Does anyone know a process that works perfectly?
I am now trying to use Real Player's integrated CD burning feature with all files in the sub directory and will report back what I find. At this point I have just been making coasters.

I will tryand figure out why those files are different.
Page 229 of the users guide has good info but no specific info https://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2cont...06corvette.pdf

iTUNES seems to be the best method - the key is you need to use ID3 version 1.0 tags PLUS keep the names of songs, artists, etc to less than 22 char ....
If you sort in iTUNES by SONG name right before you burn you will get one flat folder with all the song names in Alpha order - I use this when I want XM like features and use the RANDOM button
If you sort BY ALBUM name you will get FOLDERS named by the album - I do this when I want 6 or 7 separate albums in separate folders - both ways work GREAT.
Ok, with 22 character names using RealPlayer, works. Too bad realplayer sucks.
Nero 6 DOES NOT WORK unless formatted correctly
I used the program "Bulk Rename Ulitity" to change the song names.
I also was able to get the ID3 text to work fine using Tagscanner with the settings to ID3v1 + ID3v2. Tag scanner also has a music renamer tool, that I might play with.
Anyone know another good CD burning tool besides Nero or I tunes that is more flexible?

Buono fortuna.
What version of MP3 encoder are you using LAME?
I wish these HU's played oggVorbis format.
As far as correct titles on the Nav screen? Nope! But they do play in running order as the original CD. Also the folders will show up and read what ever you called it up to 7 letters. It's a very poor MP3 player at best. This is probably the reason it was disabled on my 05 to start with. I ran the FM fix and it activated the MP3 player too. It plays fine and sounds as good as a CD.

The filename itself won't matter - you could have left those along - it is the name in the ID3 tag that will matter.
Here is why. Ituned sorts the file with an extension 001 002 ect. Then NAMES the FILE NAME based upon the track name.
If the File name is greater than 22 characters PLUS the 4 digit prefix, the nav system gets screwed up.
When you sort using itunes it changes the prefix numbers around and then WRITES the filenames baed upon the track names.
I will keep working on this, but it seems if you can format in the MP3CD format (something about Joilete 9660) AND keep the FILE NAMES shorter than 26 characters you should be good to go
Anyway, here is what I have learned in the last few hours of making coasters.
In order to play MP3s saved on CDs in the C6 the CD must be formatted a specific way. I do not know of all of the specific formats, but here is what I have been able to get to work perfectly. You seem to be able to use ANY CD burning software if you get the format just right.
Here is what I have learned
The CD must be formatted in
ISO Joilet Mode 1
ISO9660 + Joilet
MAX 31 characters
ISO 9660 Standard ISO CD
See below on how I was able to get Nero6 to work perfectly. As you can see in the background, I used folders which are sorted in the car perfectly.

The main things to keep in mind is that the FILENAMES of the tracks can not be more than 31 characters including file extension. In order to make sure that you comply to this requirement, set your CD burning software to correct for 31 characters.
File Folders Can NOT be longer than 31 characters as well.
Track NAMES, seem to be ok in most lengths I have found so far. The system seems to be hung up on Filename and directory name sizes
In order to play tracks in any order you desire, remane the FILE NAMES alpha/numerically starting with numbers such as 001 XYZ will be your first track to play in each directory.
I do not know how to work each individual software program to set the CD burning properties, but use the above reference for the Nero program. I have used Itunes, although do not like the way it formats filenames. For me, Nero worked fine. YMMV

you need to do that to have special characters show up like () or '", or you'll get _ insteadBut it won't recognize acccentuated characters like éàè and put a _ instead. I don't think you can have an accentuated character in the title of the song.
iTunes will put the same filename as the ID3 name, so if it's too long, the head unit won't see it. Nero Burning Rom will accomodate the filename so it's fine (it will shorten it if needed and all title will always show up).
After many attempts, I found out that Nero Burnig Rom (not Nero Express) is the best way to go and gives 100% results.
The settings described on that thread are correct and close to what I use, so to sum it up, here's what I use with no problem:
Data mode: Mode 1
File system: ISO9660 only
File name length (ISO): Max. of 31 characters (level 2)
Character Set (ISO): ASCII
Allow path depth of more than 8 directories: checked
Allow more than 255 characters in path: checked (not sure about this one)
Do not add the '1' ISO file version exstension: not checked
I use Windows Media player to rip CDs at 192kbps
or TuneBite (192kbps/Stereo/CBR)
The only thing I noticed is that from time to time a song would skip in the middle, but the same song could play fine most of the time.
Tunebite is a great program. Best one that I have used to convert wma files to MP3!!!I think the 255 characters in path might cause some issues. I was loosing some directories when the directory names were too long. I will play around with the file system settings, but it is good to know that it is flexible.
The main issues seem to be the MODE and the actual file name length being a max of 31 characters including extension. Also I had good results knocking the directory names doen to 31 characters.

I also learned to use a very slow burn as it seems to keep the songs from jumping or skipping, as was mentioned above. I also now use CD-RW discs which makes the mistakes less painful...
If not for the forum, I would have given up on MP3's a long time ago...In fact, since I have an early 05, it is only because of the forum that I have MP3 capabilty at all!!
anothercrisis
FILE Names and FOLDER Names must not be longer then 32 characters. no mention of length in ID3 text song titles
It also states that all MODE 1 Formats are supported and MODE 2 formatted CDs are NOT supported.
I will try to scan it in, but the page had very helpful information that I did not see in the 2005 Navigation users manual.
One other thing that it mentioned was when making folders do not put more than 18 tracks in each folder. - I have folders with more, so I am not sure of the issue
