Default Navigation Question

Having just returned from a cross country trip, (PA to TX) I have a couple observations/questions in regards to the Nav.

1. My wife would have often entered destinations and way points while we were driving, but the system does not permit it. Is this true on all cars with Navs? Any chance it can be changed?

2. The screen often has a glare on it during day light hours especially on a sunny day, making it difficult to see anything. Does anyone make a snap-on hood or anything to add that would help with this?

Otherwise the car was flawless and very comfortable. It's the first vette I've owned that I can drive all day and feel relaxed, ofcourse I did go from a C4 to a C6.

Item one is normal, it's a safety issue. I have a friend with an Infiniti that found a way to bypass a wire to the seat so the NAV thinks the car is not moving and he can program it while on the road. He said it's just so his wife can do it while he drives.

I read on the forum awhile ago about a mask for the glare maybe someone will tell you about.

1. Thank the lawyers! Older versions (My BMW) allow this. Newer versions (Wife's Lexus) do not. It is in the software!

2. I agree--Do you have a vert? If you find a visor, let me know.

Simple Fix for the Glare I had the same problem go into the adjustment menu find Contrast adjustment and raise the contrast a lot.Do not !!lower the contrast as I did it makes the glare worse. This will fix the your first problem. There is no way to Bypass lockout option on the Nav it will not work when moving.GM does not take into account you might have a passenger who can perform Nav entries.

My Lexus does the same thing. It's a safety issue so you won't get distracted (i.e. play with it) while you are driving. The only thing you can do is hit the HOME button to get yourself back to your domicile.

I think I remember from reading the manual a long time ago that you can hit the button and say "waypoint" or some such thing to enter waypoints while driving. That way if you are following somebody through some intricate route, you can find your way back by yourself. There are TONS of useful things that the speech recognition can help you with while driving IF you can get the lady to understand you.

Unoftunately I have as much trouble comminicating with the "lady" in the nav system as I do real ladies.

IIRC you need to go to the audio menus to find the contrast adjustment. I had to break down and read the manual to find out how to adjust it.

Adjusting the contrast helped mine a lot. It's rarely a problem now.

A company named Nu Shield has a screen protector for the NAV display. It works better for protecting the screen than it does for keeping off the glare, but it is a worthwhile product.

While driving, one can select a previously entered address destination and the NAV will calculate the route. This feature is handy.
