I drive mine the same way. I haven't driven it "D" yet.

I have had some fun with my A6, but I am now feeling like I made a huge mistake by not buying a manual in this sports car dammit.

I felt that way a while back as well until I ran into 20-minute stop-and-go traffic.

I use the "S" mode most of the time. The A6 is the best of both worlds.

A very nice gimmick, but a gimmick. Its cheating. I tried Saturday to drive all day with them, but without using a clutch, it just isn't the same. Its like driving with the floor shifter in an Impala.

A Corvette will never be like a Ferrari, no matter if they share the exact same transmission. A Vette is all about torque and cubes while a Ferrari is all about revs and high specific output. Totally different engines and driving experience. That being said, I'd prefer a true F1 clutchless manual like in an F430 over the A6 transmission, but I still like the A6 transmission, nonetheless.

My car is scheduled to be built week of 9-4 and I have not owned a vette since 86. However, even though I have driven manual cars my whole life (including my first car...a 68 Falcon with 3 on the tree, and my second car...a 70 Cuda with a Hurst pistol grip 4 speed) I felt like I had to give the paddles a try. Sounded like fun to me. If I am disappointed, I will likely get a manual in 08. I just can't imagine the paddles not being a lot of fun, plus giving you the flexibility to to use your right hand for cell, drinking, punching buttons, and holding the hand of my red hot sexy beautiful bride of 28 years.

They are nice to have, although I rarely use them. I like the idea of having the S mode without using the paddles. Def worth the 1250. I wouldn't trade an 05 for an 06 soley for that reason however.

My Car's a daily driver so commuting in to work I'm in "D" 99% of the time, but when I'm driving for fun or on mountain roads coming home it's about 50/50 depending on my mood.

The paddles really help in traffic, but I have to admit I do miss the stick once and a while... just not when I'm in traffic

Interesting.

I just last Sunday attended the BMW 335i Coupe drive event near Atlanta.

The BMW implementation is the reverse of the C6 – and the other GM paddle shifted manumatic that I currently drive. ( GP GXP V8 ) And with nearly 20,000 miles on my GP, and now quite used to ‘Push = Upshift’ & ‘Pull = Downshift’, I think I’d have a difficult time adapting to the reverse.

BMW also does the reverse of the 3 other manumatics I’ve previously had for daily drivers in the direction of movement of the central console shift lever when in manual mode: In all those I’ve owned, forward push on the lever = Upshift and rearward pull on the lever = downshift. BMW = reversed.

Again, I expect that, once very used to one scheme ( as you are in the motorcycle realm ) I’d struggle with this reversal.

Fortunately, the C6 still sits atop my ‘short list’ – and will likely be my next purchase. Not the BMW, interesting though it was . . .

I'm an old dog (pushing 60), and I have to mentally "switch gears" whenever I drive my Quattroporte for a day or two and then hop back into the C6. In the QP, right paddle pulls for upshift and left pulls for down, so it takes a moment to adapt and I've even once accidentally downshifted by pulling right while intending to upshift the Vette but once you make that mistake, it clears the cobwebs outta your brain and you adapt right away. At least, I do.

I use them once and a while. Not all that often, but when I'm in the mood, it is nice to have them.
