Can anyone provide me with the inside dimensions of the Convertibles trunk. I am taking one of my daughters to the NCM with me and need to know how large a suitcase she can bring along.
I can't go out and measure it right now, no tape measure with me, but I would say you can fit one of the carry on roller bags in there along with a medium size duffle bag. It goes most of the width of the car and is about a foot tall under the trunk lid, a little less on the sides though. You probably have about 15 inches of space front to back as well.
This is all allowing for the top to go down. Hopefully it won't rain on you and you can drive with the top down on your trip home. We got rained on all the way back to texarcana. Even with the rain it was a great trip though, you will love the car.
We used the nav system to get to some smaller towns on the way back (during the break-in 500 miles), and picked normal route. It had us in the middle of no-where Tennesse, beautiful country though. I should have probably picked the quick or short mode for getting to those cities.

I just measured 36x18x11 is the largest box that will fit. The opening is wider at the rear but at the widest depth you can only get 36"wide. The 11 inch height is to the middle of the Wx Strip to be safe.
We travel a lot in our manual 05 vert. This includes clothes & things for 2 people, 2 chairs, cleaning supplies, cooler. Use SOFT SIDED bags and you can get lots of things in the trunk.
We took 2 SOFTSIDED bags to the NCM when we picked our car up last June. Picked up a stryrofoam cooler for drinks at a nearby store (a couple bucks) Bought some stuff on the way home. & drove home all the way with top down.
I have an 07 VR vert with the power top. I hate to disagree with the answer that johnodrake just posted but his numbers seemed a little low to me, since I just had my golf clubs in there and I know that they are longed then 36 inches...therefore I just measured my trunk.
I found that the length of the trunk is 46" from lip to lip and about 58" at the widest part inside the trunk under the lips. The width varies from 18" to 15" depending on where you measure. The 15" section is where the trunk latch is.
As for what size luggage would be best. Anything with soft sides like a duffle bag IMHO would be best since it can change its form to fit where necessary.

For the purposes of a trip like that, if you're willing to live with not being able to put the top down you can drop the trunk divider and pic up another 12" or so of space at the back of the trunk. That would let you fit a rather larger suitcase, but the better bet is to use soft-sided bags as recommended above.
This question has been concerning me as well. My wife and I are traveling to San Francisco from central Fl. in about 2 weeks staying for 11 days then road tripping on the way back on either Route 66 or hwy 50. Anyway... We're thinking of dumping all of her female products (the bulky stuff) into the cubby holes in the trunk. Then packing the trunk itself without the use of bags at all (rolling everything). Placing collapsible duffle bags flat on top for when we get to where we're going. This will ensure that we'll get optimum trunk useage. Was trying to sound scientific, how'd I do? I know..sounds like more work etc but, it's a long trip with limited cargo space. A sacrafise I was willing to make to look
See yas on the trip

I am about to make the same trip and it's details like these that have made this forum a nightly addiction.

I don't disagree with your measurements. Indeed I forgot about the short space at the latch ( I just went to the garage opened the trunk and measured. But since he specifically said "suitcase" I was focused on what size hard box would fit. That would be, I think, 36x15x11 (using your measurement at the latch). Certainly you could put objects of other dimensions in and if you had a manual top, there is space under the top available with the top down.

Don't laugh
Those space saver bags that you can get all the air out of with a vaccum work great for packing clothes into the trunk. BTW, once opened, the instructions say to pack the bag and roll tight to get the air back out of it. Works for us.

Bill has the best setup with the space in the trunk and the luggage rack on the trunk lid. Best of both worlds!
Thanks Doug! Glad to hear you are back at home
Gonna post later some pics of my new rack design. I curved the back of the rack to match the back of the trunk lid. Just got them in last night. Hope to see ya soon...
