Default Fender dent

All,

I had a visit with a post to a carport as I was backing out to go wash and Zaino the car. (The wash/Zaino didn't happen hence). There is a minor dent in the passenger side fender near the turn signal repeater on the side of the car, as well as several scratches where the fiberglass rubbed against the post.

Here are some pictures of what happened. Can anyone give me any idea how much it might cost to fix? I'm a little afraid of claiming it on my insurance due to a claim 12 mths ago for a rollover (in a Firebird Formula). Anyone in the Sacramento/Roseville/Rocklin area have any recommendations for a repair shop?

Here's an image of the entire area of damage:

A close-up on the dent:

A slightly different angle:

The wheel well damage:

Near the headlight:

Below the headlight:

Along the side of the headlight:

There doesn't appear to be significant damage to the headlight housing. This pisses me off cuz I have to spend my vacation time dealing with this Anyone have any thoughts?

A lot of that will buff out with some fine rubbing compound like M3 scratch remover. I'd take it to a paint shop, though as they have the tools to do a complete job.

If your car was red and the damage on the left side I would have swore you took pics of my car when a lady hit me. I was going about 20mph and she made illegal lane change and tagged me on front left corner of the vehicle, All of this 3 weeks after owning my 07 with less than 1k miles . It just happened this past weekend and I got an estimate from dealership Monday.

The estimate consisted of a new bumper and parts that go with that, one left headlight assembly (wasn't broke from view on the exterior must have had something cracked inside or somewhere I couldn't see), left fender and parts that go with putting that on, then the painting including blending hood etc but hood had no damage just to blend to get paint right. And last but not least the rim and 4 wheel alignment all of it was $4926.06.

The most expensive part of the change was the left headlight assembly at $974.40. Hope that gives you kinda an idea if your looking at replacing parts or having it taken somewhere.

Sorry to hear about your car too, I know I can't wait to get mine back its killing me its like teasing a kid with candy and taking it away just haven't had much time driving in it yet. Its my first Vet too!

Well that sucks for you, Luckily it doesn't appear to be any real damage to any parts. So I hope my estimate is significantly lower than that.

Yea I am sure you can get alot of it out since it doesn't look like anything is cracked etc, Also I am sure the bodyshop jacks up some prices to make money off insurance companies. I know alot of the stuff like the wheel etc can find on these forums alot of times for real good prices etc. Only thing I am wondering is how my car is going to look when I get it back I mean I know it will never be as good as I would like but just worried about how the paint does on the body pieces. Hope it sticks good!

My guess is $600 if the headlight assembly is OK.

I would try buffing it out, first.

Thats going to need new paint. Yes, im sure you can get some of the scuffs out with a good buffing but it wont be perfect. I wouldnt claim ins. for that either. Take it as a loss and see what kind of a deal you can find and have it repainted. You never know when you might have to claim something bigger on your ins.

In any case, I've resized them. You could have at least answered my questions instead of just chastizing me for large pictures.

It appears that you are going to have to paint the fender and the front facia to get this right. There may have to be some blending to get a perfect match before applying clearcoat. It doesn't appear that there is enough surface damage to warrant panel replacements. I would guess that your repair estimate should run from $1500 to $2000. However, you are in California so, all bets are off.

I'm no expert on repairs. What has worked for me in the past is to come up with your best estimate for the repair......and triple it. I'm going with $1,800. Good Luck!

All,

After taking it to Golden State Collision in Lincoln, CA (the one in Roseville was booked until tomorrow for estimates), they estimated about $1k to repair the fender, and paint. They took some stuff and rubbed about 90% of the scratches/abrasions away, and used some rubbing compound to attempt to rub off some of the tougher parts.

I'll take some pictures of what it looks like now, it looks a lot better, and I think I might live with how it looks, at least until I can afford to fix it on my own (without ins). Thanks for the advice.

Sorry for your loss. It's a tough thing to go through and having done it to yourself, there's nothing anyone can say to make you feel better. Be glad it wasn't worse. $1K is a cheap lesson on a $55K vehicle. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I plan on showing up to a Vette Cruise on the 27th in Santa Cruz. I'll probably get a few opinions when I show up there. I have to work that morning so I hope I can make it!

I say around $3,600.00 report it to the insurance and have your car fixed professionally.

Not sure about the paint. But the "Dent" is the 2 body parts being pushed in. You should be able to loosen the panels and fix it. The car is not metal and it should not dent. I helped a friend fix something similar on an 05. good luck.

Had something similiar-about $1,000. Now, all is well. In fact took 3rd place at a recent cruise-in at a local Corvette Show.
