Jim, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had an '05 with Nav and now an '07 with Nav and my mp3's work fine using i-tunes.

when no one responds to a thread after a month or so, the software moves the thread into the archieves, where the thread is lost. Perhaps the reason you cannot view the pictures is because the picture poster removed them from wherever they were/are stored... of course, I could be wrong..

Default ITunes MP3 CD Help

I read all the posts I could find and read through the owners manual on creating an MP3 CD out of ITunes, but I'm still having issues. I want to create 1 CD with around 150 songs on it and I just select the track I want to play from the list.

Originally, I downloaded the songs from ITunes, then used Tunebite to convert them from the protected MP4 over to MP3s that the Nav/CD would be able to play. I am creating the ITunes playlist from the Tunebite file folder that contains the actual MP3s.

I am still getting duplicate songs and then the track list feature gets all screwed up. I can press a song title, and it will play a song anywhere from 2 tracks away to up to 15 tracks away. Also, I can't play the last 15 or so songs that are on the CD at all.

In ITunes, I've changed the ID Tags to 1.0, I've shortened the actual file names (in the Tunebite folder) to less than 22 characters (Does that 22 include the ".mp3", so the song name is really only a max of 18? - that could be my problem. I'm 22 + the 4 for the ".mp3"). I've also gotten rid of all the special characters in the actual file name.

I've also tried sorting by album in ITunes and then burning to get all the folders, but only like 20% of the songs seem to work and it's a REAL MESS. Most of the songs give an error like, "no MP3 Data" or something like that - although they will play fine when I burn all of them in one folder instead of by artist.

Also it's been mentioned that you need to shorten the name, artist name, etc... to less than 22 in ITunes playlist itself. I can't figure out how to edit that in the ITunes application. Anyone know how to do that?

Could the song name length is what is causing all my issues? I have 121 songs in this playlist that I want to burn. I'm set for MP3 burning and using only 1x speed. I've even tried burning a Data CD instead of MP3 CD just incase that was the problem. I'm using a Maxell CD-R 700MB CD. I also use the eject button in ITunes to eject the disc when the burn is finished.

I've also tried to create 7 playlists with 18 songs or less (a suggestion from the owners manual) in each under one folder in ITunes, but can't figure out how to burn a multi session CD out of that application. I can burn the first 18 song playlist, but then I can't add anything to it when it's finished. I would rather have one playlist with up to 150 songs though with no folders and it sounds like others are doing that.

Now that I have them in MP3 format, do I have to Use ITunes to burn them? Can I just burn that folder with all the songs to a CD using the native Windows XP CD burning application? I've tried that, but the Nav CD Player won't recognize the disc at all. I assume it's because it's a Data CD, not MP3 CD.

As a last note, almost everything I've done has played JUST FINE on my DVD/CD player for my home theater system.

Thanks,

Jay

Oh, it's on the NAV/CD player on a 2007 model year if that makes a difference.

For what it's worth, I tampered with this issue a year or so ago when the Nav update was posted here allowing us to modify our Nav units to play MP3's. I went through a whole stack of CD's before I finally got it to work in the Vette the way I wanted it to.

I ended up using Music Match to burn/rip my CD's to my hard drive. This allowed me to custom "tag" the songs in order to preserve the running order of the original CD onto the MP3. I tagged them in order of track number followed by song title then album then artist in that order. It was the only way I could preserve the correct running order of the original CD. Other programs I used always alphabetized the order by song title. When you've listened to an album for 30+ years and all of a sudden the order is changed. it bothered me!

When it is on your hard drive you can then rename the folders to shorten the names to read them in the limited Vette Nav unit. Ie. changing The Beatles to Beatles etc. You can even make sub folders for multiple albums under the same main folder of an artist. The Vette unit will allow you to go into each folder.

I then used Nero burn to make the actual CD/MP3 disc.

This method works great in my 2005 C6 with the nav unit. It also works in my other car but does not show the sub folders only every album folder. So in that case I just have to scroll through them. It does not show every album folder on my home DVD player but will play them.

These GM Nav units are very elementary at best. But with some experimenting, some time, and a lot of wasted CD-R's you can figure it out! Good luck.

Thanks Braced, but I'm hoping to eliminate the "spent time and wasted CDs" part. I've spent a ton of time already and probably blown through at least 15 CDs. I'm very frustrated with this stupid CD player

TTT

If anyone out there is the ITunes/MP3 CD Bruning guru please chime in with a little help.

Thanks

Jay

PS I'm willing to change to another program if I need to, but I've got a bunch of ITunes purchased music I'd like to use. I've heard others say they have no issues with ITunes

Default Finally!!!

I finally have a CD containing 121 songs that works properly!!!

I had 14 songs that their name was too long in the Summary tab in the Properties of the actual MP3 file. I shortened them up and burned a CD and it works fine. What a PITA. I could see where the song titles were really long in ITunes, but the actual file name for the real MP3 file that ITunes was pulling from was fine. I couldn't figure out how to shorten that display name in ITunes, but then I found the Summary Tab for the actual MP3 file. I don't remember anyone mentioning changing the file name there before, but maybe I missed it. I've read so much on this that my head is spinning.

Thanks again

I feel your pain, I am trying to crack the folder code. Been through many CDs, but can't get it perfect. Even after shortening the file names, still have problems. I think the track select feature is handy, that's why I am still working the folders. Was messing with ITunes, but have gone back to NERO.

Grump is right ... that would be ME that did that by mistake!! Sorry ...

PM me if you have some specific questions on using iTUNES for the C6 CDs ... I have done at least 25 no problems at all now ... So easy I do some temp ones and just toss the CD away when I am sick of it.

Nero 6 works for me. If I don't shorten the title the songs still play, it's just the title is truncated on the display. I have made many CDs now with >200 songs/disc that work fine in my '05 6 disc, no NAV.

Just a quick clarification: You all realize the songs you buy from itunes are M4p and not MP3 right??

You can convert them using Hymn. Or, I just bought a program called Tunebite which is working great. It will convert all the m4ps you've bought to mp3, then just burn them to a DATA disc and they will play fine.

If you really want to use itunes, burn a music CD, then rip it back in MP3 format, THEN use the mp3 format files to make a DATA disc.

This is a very simple process that alot of people seem to be over-complicating.

Over complicating? I think the problem is American car makers are still using a Comador 64 instead of grasping today's technology. The after market is stealing millions of dollars from their pockets and they are too blind to see it. Who ever bought off on this Nav/Mp3 player must have come from Yugo! I'm sorry but GM missed the mark on this and Bluetooth technology just to save a few $$. It's like they finished the car and said, oh yea we need a stereo to put in it. Lets use this! Homer Simpson works for GM!

I have tried many cdrs and software. I find if I burn a 125 to a disk and load it in my car it will display all the tracks. The problem I have is that it will get stuck and repeat the same track 3 or 4 maybe 5 times and then move to the next song. When i get to a certain track say 85 it just keeps repeating that track over and over. Yet it should have a 125.
I have tried it at different burning speeds, less songs etc. I have only been able to get it to work by shortning the song titles. This is because the same disk plays in my dads durango factory nav system fine-no edits. There must be a software update for our cars to fix this problem or I am doing something wrong. I have using Sonic record now, windows media 10, Instant CD and now Nero 7. I now have 125 songs and only 3 repeats by shortning the file names-pain in the but.

Default I've still got problems...

I've now got a CD that displays all 121 songs properly and will TRY to play them when selected. This CD seemed to work fine at first, but now all the songs skip and lock up, then it trys to move to the next song. Almost all 121 songs are now unplayable in the C6, but play fine in other players....

It's almost like the CD player doesn't work well after it's been playing for a while. It'll play the first few songs fine in the morning, then not play them at all later. Next morning, they play fine again.

I'm going to try another brand of CD, and if that doesn't fix it, I'll let the Chevy guys look at it.

Thanks,

Jay

Is this the Nav or regular radio?

It's the Nav. I burned another brand of CD earlier today, and so far, it seems to be better, but I haven't had much time to listen to it. The Maxell CDs were fine at first too....

I agree, what a pain!!! Did you also shorten the song names in the general tab of the properties of the MP3 file itself? That's how I fixed my last few "repeats". If I could just end the skipping and locking up, I'd be good to go.

MP3 is to audio what an Aveo is to cars ... pure drek. MP3 preserves only about 17% of the original data.

The best sound quality you can get from iTunes / iPod is the wav format, which takes up 10 times the space (~1 Mb/minute).

If you download in MP3, then you're stuck with MP3. But if your music is originally in wav, the format used by Windows Media player -- for instance, if you take music off CD's or convert music from an analog source to digital -- you can import as wav to iTunes by clicking edit menu, preferences, advanced tab, importing tab, "import using" window, scroll to "wav encoder."

Apple Lossless and AIFF, both intended to preserve more data, are not as good as wav. I've done side-by-side comparisons.

Ok I've searched a bunch of threads and I cannot find the following.

With respect to the NAV unit

I finally got a MP3 disc to play but it has several folders; how do I switch from one folder to the next?
