Default Need audio help!!

Here's what I've got:
I'm getting some sort of interference from the rears. Installed Polk DB6500 components in the front, DB525's in the back, and a JL stealthbox for a sub. Speakers powered by a kicker 350/4 and sub by a 250. Also used a PAC oem24 module and retained the factory head unit. Now, only the rears make noise when the volume is turned down. We tried different speakers, amps, cabling, but nothing would get rid of the noise. Any ideas?

Grounding??!!

make sure you run a ground to a good location...
(since your amps are big... i would run a ground to the battery)

what kind of noise are you hearing?? whining? static?

I'm assuming the power for the amps are from the battery also...

It's a whining sound coming from the back speakers. Changed the ground, no luck. Power is from the battery.

seems like you have some alternator noise - you can get filters for that.... most stereo shops sell them

without hearing sound it would be hard to tell someone exactly what they would need...

getting rid of the noise is almost a "try here... if not... try here" kind of solution.... so....

try the amp power lines first (alternator connection)...
filters in signal line next (above should take care of most noise)...

grounding for amps should be at the same location (make sure it's good - i haven't looked into how the chassis is built and grounding for the Vette - i would think it's different than a regular "all metal" car)

for troubleshooting just run a wire for ground if your not sure (from batt to amps - outside car)

good luck!!

It really does sound like a ground problem, #1 gremlin in all auto sound installs. Here's where we connected my ground cable, passenger side panel toward the rear of the cabin:

We scuffed the panel to make sure the ground connection was being made on more than just the bolt itself, then after we connected it up sprayed some undercoat over it to seal it back up.

Have you tried swapping the inputs on the amp and swapping the amp outputs to see if the noise is from the amp itself or the head/PAC ?

We swapped the amp itself. I'll try another ground and if that's not it, it must be the pac/hu for some reason.
Thanks.
