Default Things to do in Bowling Green???

Hi All,

The wife and I are taking museum delivery of our new Z next Wednesday (9/6) @ 0745. We were debating on whether to hang out in the BG area for the remainder of the day before heading back home to Va the following morning. Are there any attractions that you guys would recommend we visit during the afternoon and evening? Thanks in advance!!

Is anybody else taking delivery next Tuesday? It would be great to meet some fellow forum members and maybe do lunch/dinner.

After your delivery, drive north to the Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill.
Have lunch and/or dinner and maybe stay overnight. Great place to visit. You will be able to make it home the next day.

From Wikipedia;

The Shakers, an offshoot of the Religious Society of Friends (or Quakers), originated in Manchester, England in the late eighteenth century (1772). Strict believers in celibacy, Shakers maintained their numbers through conversion and adoption. Once boasting thousands of adherents, as of 2006 the Shakers number four people living in Sabbathday Lake, Maine.

The Shakers of New England should not be confused with the religion of the Indian Shakers of the Pacific Northwest of North America.

Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill has a website. They are a restored and preserved Shaker village in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.

Here's a link to the Chamber of Commerce page to get you started:

http://www.discoverourtown.com/KY/Bo...tions-246.html

Wonderful town and extremely Corvette friendly. As far as things to do, Lost River Cave (neat little attraction right in town) Mammoth Cave, Cave city, Horse Cave, Diamond Cavern. Ky Down under, The Bourbon hospitality center, Ky speedway are all within an hour and a half. For meals, I can recommend Rafferty's, The Montana Grill, Mariah's 440 Main and The Brickyard. Enjoy your time there. I'm here in town as I type this.

OOPS!! I meant Wednesday the 6th.

Awesome!! We're flying out on Tuesday afternoon and are scheduled to arrive in Nashville @ 7:55pm. We're doing the Enterprise one-way rental and staying at the Hampton Inn in BG, how about you guys? I'm sure we'll be doing a late dinner, somewhere.

I'll PM you with some contact info.

Just FYI, the service kind of sucks

When I was there we toured around, looked at overpriced for sale vette's across the street from the museum and then drove around the test road around the factory. Then headed back. It's unfortunate there's not a lot more excitement going on down there.

My wife and I love BG ... it is just a cool, friendly, fun, relaxing, warm, hospitable town ... spend a couple days and enjoy the sites ...lots of really good restaurants for a town that size ...of course don't forget the mueseum and the factory tour ...

Hey Adam - Nice Web logo work by the way - a man of many talents.

Default Museum Delivery

Hi,
I just picked up my car last Thursday. I acually went to school at WKU since they shut down Pauline's BG became a little boring.
Seriously, its a fun town to visit. Allow 4-5 hours for the entire tour and delivery.
If you are heading North on 65 DON"T. The road is a mess. Take 31-W thru Shepherdsville/Gene Snyder than get back on 65N.

Have a great trip

Dave

My 12-year-old son and I just returned from our NCM Buyer's Tour last night; we watched our '07 Coupe being built Friday and Monday, and we spent the weekend in BG. Here are a few random observations (probably more than you want to know, but maybe someone else who's planning a longer stay will be interested).

1. The NCM folks and the folks at the Assembly Plant are all fantastic, period.

2. I-65 was never an issue, from Nashville to Bowling Green. There's construction, but in the four days we were in and around Bowling Green, traffic in the construction zone between the Hampton Inn exit (#22) and the Assembly Plant exit (#28) never even slowed down to the posted speed limit at any time of day or night. For people driving up from the Nashville airport, take the Briley Road (Route 155) loop from the airport to I-65. The construction makes things a mess for a couple of miles, but it's still faster than taking I-40 west of the airport and through downtown to catch I-65.

3. The Hampton Inn is an excellent place to stay. The staff is top-notch, the rooms are very nice (and clean and quiet!) and the free breakfast is considerably better than most motels serve. If you need to leave before 6:00 a.m., they'll give you breakfast-in-a-bag on your way out the door.

4. Eat at the Sante Fe restaurant next door for steaks, fajitas and southwestern-type food. It's a throw-the-peanut-shells-on-the-floor type of place. Our tour guide (a recently retired GM executive with 32 years of experience with the Corvette) invited us for a post-tour drink at the end of the first day of touring (after giving us a free guided tour of the NCM), and we stayed for dinner.

5. Or, just down Route 231 in front of the mall, eat dinner at O'Charley's. It's a "contemporary American" type of place, the food was excellent and the rolls were absolutely orgasmic. (My son and I each ate three!) We ate lunch one day at Ruby Tuesday, which is also in front of the mall, and appreciated its long salad bar for a healthy meal. We also tried to get to the highly recommended Montana's restaurant, which is on 231 but much closer to downtown; it's only open for dinner (or carryout lunches), but our schedule didn't allow us to try it. Another place we had lunch—Rafferty's—wasn't as successful, and it had us both reaching for Rolaids a couple of hours later.

6. If you want to play tourist without devoting a lot of time to an excursion, you could try the Lost River Cave, which is only about 10-15 minutes from Exit 22. Check www.lostrivercave.com. There's also a small amusement park with a wooden roller coaster called Beech Bend Park about 20-25 minutes from Exit 22, but less time from the plant; however, since school is now in session, I don't know if it's open weekdays. Check www.beechbend.com. Finally, some of the locals like to recommend a visit to the old downtown section of BG, but we didn't find much of interest there except a fountain in the middle of the town square.

7. You will have a full day and you will walk a lot. At the Assembly Plant, you'll find out so many things about your car that the facts will be running out your ears by the end of your tour. (But be sure to ask any questions you want to ask!) And don't rush the NCM experience—It's just kind of nice to be there and immerse yourself in all things Corvette.

8. Regarding your Assembly Plant tour, there have been some posts here about people being invited by assembly line workers to put a part on a car or leave the official green tour path to get a closer look at what's going on. (Some people have even signed their own cars, on a frame rail or the torque tube.) Don't expect that to happen; last week, a memo came down from the Big Office telling everyone to knock off that kind of activity for safety and quality-control reasons. (If you slipped and scratched a car, GM would have to fix it before delivery.) The best thing I can say is to listen to what your guide tells you—and don't do anything without his approval.

9. Last Saturday, we saw the C6s in line for delivery—one that day and the rest for Monday—and I have to tell you I have never seen better finishes on any car, anywhere. The paintwork from the factory and the NCM predelivery detailing was amazing. I didn't see a single hairline scratch or swirl mark on any of the eight cars I checked, and I am pretty **** about that kind of stuff. I asked the NCM staff about the C-Magic detailing products they use, and I ordered the kit on the spot (which is saying a lot for an old Meguiar's and Zymol guy)!

10. Have fun!
