Has anyone hardwired the TOMTOM 510 or 910 GPS units into their vetts? I just saw a TomTom and I can't believe how innovative that GPS is. Never have seens anything like it (and I have the OEM GPS in my Lexus, and two higher end Toyotas).
I have the 910 and I have not yet hardwired it (it will be a winter project). Nice unit. The mount for it fits prefectly in the cup holder and the viewing angle from that position is good for me.

I take it you will use some different mount then? and an extended antenna, right?
I'm not sure. I will probably run the wires out thru the center console (or maybe up through a small hole I'll make in the cup holder) and that way I can remove the TomTom and take it in my other ride. From where it sits in the cup holder I get a good signal. No need for an external antenna.

HyperX, you are right - it is amazing what the 510 and 910 can do.
Are you determined to hardwire it, as opposed to mounting it to the dash?
Although it sounds like all of your vehicles have GPS, so I guess I can understand why - I need to be able to take it from one vehicle to the next.
I have the TomTom on my Treo 700w smartphone. It works better than the nav system in my C6! Mine uses a bluetooth GPS device that sits on the dash. The directions are far superior to the Vette.
I use it in my other cars and on rentals when I'm on the road. I am very impressed with the ease of use with the TomTom.

I tend to buy the highest end vehicles in each line, and they just happen to come with the GPS, however, I am just amazed with TomTom. I am now thinking about maybe skipping the GPS part as standard feature. Dunno. I am not determined to hard wire it. Thing is, my company is growing, we are getting new clients all the time, so I am actually using my GPS more and more. I like the suggestion of putting it in the cup holder. I guess this is one advantage of a glass roof.
The NAVs that came with my Lexus and my Mercedes are WORTHLESS around our town of Pensacola... medium-sized city, and almost NONE of the neighborhood streets are on the map! Half the time you are driving "nowhere" on the moving map.
It was great in San Diego, where every little dinky street was listed, but heaven help that you don't live in a major metropolitan area.
I don't care as much about ATM locations, gas stations and such... the PRIMARY purpose is street navigation. Put every street in America on the thing and THEN put in the extras. Why does my Microsoft Street's and Trips for $20 have every street on it, but my $3000 NAV/upgrade package in the Mercedes has only about 15% of my cities streets... RIDICULOUS!
I will never order NAV again from a car manufacturer, and instead go with an aftermarket unit like the TomTom.
