C6 CORVETTE PROTOTYPES/CONCEPTS SPIED???
2 weeks ago on my way home from work I saw 2 cars on top of a flat bed transporter that almost caused me to drive into the
ditch as I was staring at them. If these were C6 concepts it would not make any sense to transport them out in the open but bear
with me... I live in the Minneapolis area and the transporter was east bound on I694 through the northern metro. Extremely heavy
traffic prevented me from exiting and turning east. Here is what I saw...2 identical cars on an immaculate unmarked
flat bed transporter. Both were painted in GM colors, Admiral Blue and Copper. They appeared to be the size of the current
C5. My opinion, these are what the current C5 should have looked like, Picture a front end very much like a mid 60"s
CanAm car...Like a Lola or Chaparrall or Porsche 917 but more subdued, not quite as curvaous. From the side there
was a hint of Viper. Both cars were coupes, very curvy with nice flowing lines. You see one and you immedately go
WOW. The styling in the back leads me to believe these were Corvettes... Can we say 63 split window? Yup, that is
how these 2 were styled. The frame that split the window was not very wide like on the original 63. The tail styling was
heavily influenced by the mid year. 2 round tail lights on each side of the crease.
I wish I was an artist so I could draw a sketch and post what I saw. I know what you are thinking I am making this up.
Well, I am not, I am a car nut, a Corvette nut and what I saw was terriffic. A real racy car.
I went to the tuner pages and they have nothing like what I saw, Does somebody have a "kit" out there? I don't know.
It will be interesting to see what the professional spies find out.
Thanks for reading.

Weird!
As far as we know there is no C6 mules out yet(they are getting build now from all accounts).
I wonder what you saw?

Re: C6 CORVETTE PROTOTYPES/CONCEPTS SPIED??? (Mervz)
The closest car that I have come across that looks like what I saw is the Callaway C12. But even that
was not the car I saw.
I am going to see if we have an artist here at work that I could get to sketch up what I saw on the transporter.
They were definitely not the same as the artists concepts that Motor Trend has published.
Amendment to my Post...The tail lights... there are 2 on each side and they are round and located BELOW the crease
keeping in mind what the 63 to 67 Corvette rear looks like.
From across the median the cars look very well finished...not cobbled.

Nope. As far as I know the new Shelby Series I is a roadster/convertible, at least from what I have read. The cars
I saw were coupes. The front end was way different too. The new Shelby has the gaping maw for a radiator opening
much like the original Cobra. The front of the cars I saw were far more streamlined and the width/height ratio is different
as well. Much wider and lower (hood height) than the Shelby. Rear was different too, again Mid Year Corvette.

Could it have been the avelate corvette? They make a "split window" coupe conversion for the c5, and they look somewhat like what you are describing. Go to http://www.avelate.com to see what I am talking about.
I am not sure this is what you saw, but it might be. Here is the back end:

Let's see -
- Avelate is in Edgewood, Washington
- You saw these cars "about two weeks ago" in the Minneapolis area
- On Labor Day weekend in Auburn, Indiana there was a Copper color Avelate prototype split window coupe and a Blue Avelate prototype roadster in the auction (neither sold first time through)
I wonder.....??

Re: C6 CORVETTE PROTOTYPES/CONCEPTS SPIED??? (davidwp97)
Thanks for the info on the Avelate website. I went there and took a peek. Unfortunately some of their jpegs wouldn't
load. The Avelate is very close to what I saw. Granted the total elapse time of my sighting was maybe 30 to 45 seconds
so I might not have gotten all the details right but the Avelate has much sharper edges on top of the fenders and the
front end isn't right. Blend the Avelate with the Callaway C12 and that would be about right.
Not discounting the Avelate as what I saw but it doesn't seem exactly right. Does Avelate offer a 2 models?

I saw 2 avelates at a car show in Wahsigton. They were wild cars. Capable of amazing speeds with massive 20 inch bear brakes and etc... The two cars looked very different. This is probably what you saw. If the New C-6 looks like that :U :U

Sounds like the royal blue Motor Trend concept C6 shown in the Magazine 6 months ago or so that showed T-Tops.

If you've seen the car in person, the only thing they did really well was paint. The paint on the one I saw was incredible... too bad it was also on a mutant.

geez, about that avelate car. I think you would have to spend twice the money to mod it than the conversion costs; that garbage must weigh a ton. I wonder how many 'vette designers spewed coffee on the monitor looking at that confused car.....?

Hmmm... The Avelate front is C3-ish, the sides are C1-ish, the rear is C2-ish and the overall sweep is C5-ish. So where's the C4??? :smash: :U
