The Nav system will not be plug and play. As I understand it the unit is integrated to the vehicle and computers via the VIN number, in other words it is vehicle specific. I also understand that the manufacturer will be able to switch the unit over but I would imagine that there is a significant cost to do this. Perhaps down the road as the user base grows and our talented members continue their work to crack the codes for the unit it will become a matter of ease to substitute one in. My advide to you is to look at one of the aftermarket units like the Pioneer AVIC that will fit in the space.

However if you can show proof of purchase of the NAV unit a dealer should be willing to do the Tech II programming necessary to update the NAV's VIN. The other issue is the GPS antenna... I'm not sure if that gets installed into every car as part of the standard build and is only used if there's NAV or if it's only installed if the NAV option is ordered.

If the GPS antenna isn't there or if that factory NAV is more than $500 or so then I would go aftermarket. You'll get better features and not have to pay a dealer for programming.

there is no GPS antenna in non-nav cars, and probably not a VSS wire in the harness. I know there isn't on 1SA cars.

There is a seperate part # for windshields with the NAV antenna. Basically you are SOL unless you want to replace both the windshield and NAV. Best go with the new Avic everyone is clamoring over.
