86U nightmare
U for upper ( if this helps, if it is a three coat ?)
Well, 86U is listed in the cars options batch as 379E, that would be cool but WA379E
( E this time , maybe Error ?) has to be in the lists of those who supply the colors ingrediants. I’m german and was happy that Sikkens and they ASKO- codes know WA379E as GMA98:86.
The mixing computer says that this red (not 1 or 2 )( who needed two) is a 3 layer.
If you look closer the second layer is a bit red , but mostly a transparenz enhancer.
But applied to the car it is too deep and not violett enough, not even the Metallic or the pearl
fits the sample.
Now you get very interested. There is some table that is called a tech prevarient pdf.
You will find different WA379E, darker or lighter/finer. Ahhh and cadillac has a little more sparkle in the second layer (How helpful). First you are happy. We had it too dark and not enough vilolett, lets try lighter/finer. ( come on, money it’snt everything) These variants are named NACD#** and there are many not only for GM.
Supi the violett now cames close, but were are the particles, fine means almost gone.
The very interesing thing is that these differences are bigger than all this mag red 1 + 2,
Anniversary discussing. The Euro model has a Beamer lens washing system, there lids are different on my Car. Darker and finer than the bumper and the two are different themselves.
Now this seems to go very deep into GM’s supplier and mixing tables.
The closest mixture for my car looks like this for first layer
Q922M Red pearl medium coarse 45,8
Q160 black 46,0 (0,2)
Q279 Red semi transparent 46,6 (0,6)
Q811B Metallic sparkling extra fine 47,4 (0,8)
Q232 Red transparent 54,7 (7,3)
Q271 Red maroon transparent 64,5 (9,8)
Q726 Violent red transparent 75,6 (9,1)
Q065 Binder 98,1 (22,5)
I think there is some copper Metallic ( Q833G) or Pearl brown red (Q933) in it, but this all guessing. I now have 4 cans of paint that don’t fit .
Anybody out there knowing other NACD# for 2005 or an insider that can provided
some answers .
Lucky you are owning a black one .

Look at the label on the inside of the glovebox door...toward the bottom of the option string, it will say something like "PAINT BC/CC..." and a number. Most of them start with a "U" (maybe a W). That number is the actual paint mix formula that was used on YOUR car, and will be the proper starting point to get paint that matches. If that's where you got the "WA379E", then I'm afraid I can't help you with this question.
Edit: Oops, sorry, you did say you got 379E from the car's options. :o
The only reason I can think of for the mismatch is Sikkens/Akzo have failed to update their 86U color formula to the last version of "Magnetic Red". Only one version of this color would be impossible, considering all the different DuPont formulas over the years. Your options are (1) go with Dupont (won't be any worse than the rest of your paint), or (2) try to match the formula in Sikkens, which appears to be a formidable task without better technical support.
