I put the dronemasters on last week, and with the auto tranny the revs just keep it in the drone range. I did the insert trick, but it didn't help enough and seemed to reduce the exhaust flow reduding power a bit (mabye just my imagination).
I was looking at the a$$ end of the car, and what I see is a large area that was occupied by muffler. Now it's two skinny mufflers with a lot of room to resonate. The way a bass drum resonates compared to a snare or smaller drum.
What about getting some filler material, fiberglass or treated glass and filling the compartment, or some of it, with this material. It should reduce the volume in the space, and absorb some of the sound waves that seem to fill that cavity and resonate in the car.
Any of you smart guys with input, please chime in!
I have flows on mine.... Two single tips. I have an A4. There was quite a bit of drone in the begining but it's not nearly as distubing know. I think it has to do with the mufflers building some sort of carbon in them or something...Anyways try it for a few weeks im pretty sure they won't be as bad.

That's true. Carbon does start to build up and it changes the frequencies--and sometimes amplitude, a bit. Very noticable on my '97 T/A with SLP 2 on the left. Took about 500 miles. No change in the Bullets, though. And that's fine with me!
Here are some suggestions that may be easier than trying to mod the mufflers.
Lyodde mats, dynapad trimmed and put under the llyode mats, and a divider for the rear hatch area if it is a coupe, also the abs of aluminum helps some. Very expensive exhaust fix, but these products have other value as well.
Mines a C4, and when I first got it, it would like make the wax fall out of my ears. It seems much better now, maybe all the wax is out, or it just settled itself?
I found some carbon fiber fabric, 250 mils thick, that resists heat to 1800 F. How hot would it get just above those mufflers? I was thinking of buying this stuff ($75 for 4' x 6') and trying it out. basically line the area above the mufflers.

i ended up going down to the 'sound acoustics foam' store and picked up some of the sound proofing material used in recording studios, etc. i put it in the cargo area and the put the lloyds mat over top of it. i then also use the 'cargo partition'. it seems to have helped, or i've just gotten deaf enough i am no longer bothered by it. i can now, though, hear the tires on the road surface while at highway speeds.

Sounds like a good idea. Can you give a little detail as to what sound proofing material you used, and homw much it cost? Also, if anyone could provide some info as to where to buy Dynapad in California?
I'm so f'n confused. I understand the concern about drone but first I hear that the Flowmaster doesn't drone now it's called the dronemaster, Corsa does drone if you don't get the x-pipe..maybe, I'm ready to pull the trigger and shoot myself, it's not a price thing it's a sound thing:
Ideal for me:
At idle, nice deep base thump, kind of like a big cat ready to pounce.
Under acceleration, old school big deep hey look at me I got a fast car.
Cruising, "hey don't rattle my cage I'm going to be in this beautiful machine for 5-6 hours make me happy."

if i remeber correctly it was less than $50 for the square. i asked for a piece the size of the cargo area then cut it the size of the lloyds mat then put it underneath, yes i lost cargo space but i really don't make it a habit to carry alot of stuff (read weight) in my car. i still have room to store the roof or bags of groceries, etc.
i got the type of foam with the 'cones' in it and faced the cones downward - flatside of the foam up - as the base for the mat.
yes i also have to dig or pull it/ stuck my hand under the foam to get into the storage bins.
i seem to remember i found it at an acoustics tile store.

Is this impossible?
I am also looking for the same thing for my A6. I also keep getting different informations. I hope someone can pipe in and give us the correct information so we can make our choice.

I love the sound of the flowmaster, but under load, at around 1800 RPM the whole car just reverberates. My friend was riding with me and commented how he could feel the vibration in the floorboards! I can definitely feel it there, too. It does NOT occur while in neutral at any rpm, nor at cruising speeds at any rpm. Only while under load accelerating around 1800-2200 rpm.
some have said it gets better with time. I'll wait a bit, maybe try a couple of other simple fixes before I would take them off.

As others above mentioned... I am in the same boat. What you described is what I am looking for. I do not want to wake the dead, but wanted a little more muscle car should. I still can't filter through all the drone / no drone info to find if there is actually a system that doesnt drone (besides stock).
One great intermediate step is LG Long Tube headers (or any brand I guess). I installed them a couple of weeks ago and love it. They add most of the sound improvement that I am looking for (except at idle, very little difference). At WOT it adds enough growl to make me somewhat happy (with zero drone). So until there is a 100% drone free muffler system, this is the best option (in my opinion) for some sound improvement.

Boy, Novocaine............your ears must be numb from listening to all of that drone.
Thanks to RBYCC's thread, pics and PM on his installation of Dynapad for exhaust drone on the C6.
I recently installed the Zoomers C6 Cat Back Exhaust System. I really love the exhaust sound and performance, but the wife was kind of complaining about the slight drone at around 1600 rpms. It wasn't bad, but I decided to keep the peace. So, I installed the Super Soundproofing Co. Mass Loaded Vinyl Floor Mat (3/8" thick with foam) in the back cargo and seat areas like RBYCC's Vette. Now, there is no exhaust drone at all. The wife is very happy. Super Soundproofing Co. is located in San Marcos, CA, (888) 942-7723. The cost is extremely reasonable for a great quality product. The first thing you have to remember is that we all don't hear things the same way. That's just a fact. If someone says brand XXX is the best exhaust ever and you buy it there's a chance something about it won't sit well with you. It's the same with audio. Some folks like loud and booming, others don't.
The best advice I can give is - you MUST figure out a way to actually hear various exhaust systems in a car equipped like yours under motion and being driven. If you buy an exhaust system based on a thread with 15 responses from folks you don't even know I suspect you'll find out the hard way we all hear things differently.

I just added a borla x pipe and it smoothed out and toned down the drone and sound of the flowmasters.
