I'd like everyone to know my '05 Black/Ebony Vette that I purchased on Aug 20th is still in the shop. Been able to drive it home after purchasing it. And that's it. Nice, huh... GM still can't figure out the problem.
My question is this... I keep seeing the posts about the delamination problems and flying tops. Is this another problem that I have to look foward to?
I have a translucent top. Is the problem only with the body colored tops?
I've never heard of a transparent top delaminating, although I have heard that earlier trans tops rattled a bit, and there is a simple solution of replacing some washers or something like that to resolve the issue.
Eventually GM will issue a total RECALL on ALL 05/06 painted tops to be replaced with the new improved SMC roof. So you will have that to look forward too, but with a Lexan top all you'll need to do is drop off the painted top.

Tom
will i get to keep my old one ?????? how much better/worse is the smc roof, is it heavier ?? lbs not ounces ?
Splitting hairs..but since you can see clear images through the top, rather than just light and shadows if an object is close to the top and backlit, it's transparent.
Bone china is an example of a translucent material.
