Tire pressure on right front comes on and says its low. I go to put some air in it and find a nail in the tire close to the sidewall. Take to authorized Goodyear EMT tire repair and they attempt to patch it. Because it is close to the sidewall they can't get a good patch on it. So, the tire guy tells me he can't get a good patch on it and recommends I buy a new tire. I inform him that I'd gladly take a new tire under warranty, free of charge. He is not aware of the warranty, so I take out the brochure and show it to him. He gladly orders me a new tire, no charge. Tire comes in today, so I run the car over, go grab some lunch, and go back to the tire place. Walk in, and the tire guy says, "do you want the good news or bad news?". I don't say anything, and he says, "you better come take a look at this.". They put a scratch in the rim, and into the clear coat. His response is that they can send it in to be repaired or they can get me a new rim. I tell him that I need to drive the car while they would be sending the rim in, so, therefore, I need a new rim. He's going to try to find one and give me a call!! We'll see what happens.
Make sure that you check the casting marks inside of the rim to ensure you are getting a GM rim *before* they put the tire on. They should replace what they "broke".
At least your tire shop is being honest and up front with the scratch, and they obviously honored your tire warranty once you brought it to their attention. They made a mistake and they're taking responsibility for it. Kudos to them - they sound like the type of place I would do business with.
Sure, it would have been better if they didn't scratch your rim to begin with, but a lot of places would deny scratching your rim (and never mention it, hoping you didn't notice) and you'd have to fight them tooth and nail to even repair your rim, let alone buy you a new one.
That does absolutely stink. But that is actually the most upstanding story I've heard about a shop doing the right thing in a very long time. Sounds like they will take care of you, and you will be good as new soon.
At least they're accepting responsibility for their actions.
Exactly. Plus they are willing to replace rather than repair. Rather admirable. I experienced damage to all for of my C4 rims. The tire co sent them out for repairs. They kept screwing up the repairs until the wheels could not be resurfaced any further, too thin.

Any time I am at the tire shop I have them acknowledge that there are NO SCRATCHES on the rims prior to them doing any work. That way, if there is a scratch after, we ALL KNOW how it got there.

Doesn't matter, both are made in China............

Great advice! I plan to do just that when the need arises...and it will sooner or later.
You should have gotten a Goodyear pamphlet with your C6 that explains the free warranty for tires.
I love this forum. Thanks!!! I never even bothered to look at the pamphlet. It is a 12 month warranty. Not bad. They should have told me about it though. In any case, the $400 I paid is for a 5 year warranty and it covers rim damage too. Eh, like any insurance, lets hope I never need it...
