I have 2005 hatchback with the Bose system with Navigation, this system is not what I thought it would be. I have sought help from audio centers and have been told I have to replace the entire system. Has any one added or changed speakers or added amps to this system. and if so what did you do and how difficult was it ? I'm currently driving a 2006 malibu and the base is outstanding, however in my 05 corvette i have had better sound from a 9 volt transisitor radio.

Thanks For any help/advice

I know the info is here on the forum as you might have to do a search but there are TSB's on this particuliar set up you have stereo with navigation that they use some firmware to fix the problem. I know because I have the 1SA stereo and having problems with reception but they don't offer anything for this set up.

Don't get used to it get it fixed. I did the same except we did it with a 2006 Corvette also without navigation since mine doesn't have nav. to make it a fair comparison. parked them side by side to do comparison. The other corvette picked up a FM station and the exact station in mine faded out...couldn't pick it up so we are getting it fixed.

But at least in your case there is a documented problem and fix for it so if I were you I would at least take them up on that firmware or have it checked rather than just get used to it.

I have had my car since 12-04 and it really bugs me and I cannot get used to it as it makes me

It really depends what your goals are. If you're just looking for modest improvement then replacing the 3.5" mids in the door trim panels and dash with 3.5" coaxials can help add some clarity to the front soundstage. But if you're looking for a top notch system, well you're gonna have to do an amp and speakers. I recently upgraded my system in my '06 with NAV. I used the stock NAV head but added an aftermarket amp and speakers. I did a write-up for it which you can find here:

There are also a couple of threads going right now in the Audio/Electronics section about this very subject. You might want to poke around over there.

A simple Bazooka type subwoofer is a good and cheap addition:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/phot...00/ppuser/6747

This my old one that finally went south. The Vette was the 4th vehicle that I had it in! The 6" size gives nice bass and the targa top can still be placed in back.

DOWN THE ROAD
Infiniti now offers a studio on wheels
BY HERB SHULDINER
MOTOR MATTERS
Audio systems in cars keep getting better all the time. Some of the best provide audio quality that makes you think you're sitting in a concert hall with outstanding acoustics. That's exactly what Infiniti engineers are striving to do in the 2007 G35. The new model has an all-new Bose audio system that Infiniti engineers call a studio on wheels.

Everything about the completely redesigned 2007 Infiniti G35 exudes power, including a more muscular body and a bigger 300 horsepower V8 engine. The new Bose audio system helps accentuate the fact that the car offers more than just raw power.

"From the beginning of the G's development, the sound system was considered a core element of the vehicle's DNA, rather than simply a feature or an option," says Mark Igo, Infiniti's chief. "Working with Bose, we feel we've achieved our vision with the studio on wheels."

I recently got a chance to listen to a jazz combo in a Manhattan recording studio. Then I sat inside the car and listened to a CD with the same music. It was hard to distinguish between the live performance and the CD.

The studio on wheels was developed with Bose to create a new benchmark in vehicle sound systems. "You'll hear stuff off a CD you've never heard before with this system," says a Bose engineer. To produce this quality, the car and audio engineers from the companies engineered the audio system from the ground up.

From the very beginning of planning the new G35, Bose and Infiniti collaborated closely in developing the studio on wheels system. Instead of working with a list of features and specifications, Bose engineers made thousands of acoustic measurements of the car's interior and then placed the components where they would reproduce optimum sound fidelity.

If the components didn't reproduce optimized sound reproduction, Infiniti engineers altered sheet metal in the doors and elsewhere to allow Bose sound engineers to place speakers and other elements in the sound system where they performed best.

The internal structure of the G35 doors and the specific shape and size of the holes in the speaker grilles were tailored to optimize sound quality. Infiniti engineers accommodated their counterparts from Bose by designing the front doors around the audio components.

The new G35 sound system has 10 Bose neodymium-magnet speakers, including an industry first with a 10-inch woofer in each front door. "That's never been done before," says a Bose engineer. There's also a third 10-inch woofer on the rear shelf of the car. The inverted motor structure of the woofers is squeezed into 2.6 inches of depth which allows their placement in the doors.

The system also includes a 3-inch mid/high range speaker in each door and one in the center of the instrument panel. Each rear door contains a 6.5-inch neodymium full-range speaker. There is also a 1-inch tweeter located in each side mirror patch.

A digital amplifier powers the G35 sound system. It has three times the processing power that's in the current G35 audio system. Bose engineers claim this delivers a more detailed, lifelike sound.

Jim Hooke, senior manager Infiniti marketing, forecasts that the studio on wheels will be a popular feature with G35 buyers. There were about 68,000 G35s sold in 2005 and Hooke expects at least equal that total this year. "We're looking at the 2007 model to improve over the current total," he says.

Infiniti provides a lot more in the 2007 G35 besides its outstanding sound systems. The Infiniti executive believes the new 300-horsepower engine, which has 80 percent of its internal parts redesigned, will help 2007 sales. The new G35 goes on sale in November.

Hooke expects the Miami and Los Angeles metro markets, and both coasts in general, to lead G35 sales. "We would like more sales in the heartland," he says.

The new G35 will be available in all- and rear-wheel drive versions. He forecasts that 70 percent of sales will be RWD models. "But initial orders might be more heavily AWD weighted," Hooke says. Prices for the G35 won't be released until closer to its on-sale date in November.

Now why can't we C-6 ers have a stereo system like this and it is also made by BOSE. This G-35 cost even less than ours

Not exactly a "small" upgrade, but it's my first Vette...
Still used my stock NAV unit. I can provide parts list if you want it.

Have you looked at the C6 FAQ yet? Also note section General Corvette - Audio/Electronics.

Several companies are comming out with add ons that will allow you to add amps to your factory system w/wo NAV. I also am not happy with my Bose Nav setup. I am looking into JL audio's "Clean sweep" and Alpine's "Audio Hub Pro" They also will allow you to add Ipod or other audio plus have inputs for video. But I am not sure if you need anything else added to have the screen play DVDs or not. But I know it is possible. I have a hide-away Eclipse DVD unit that I pulled out of my Avalanche before I traded it in on the Vette. If I go with the Audio Hub Pro I may see about adding this.
There may be many other companies that have similar products, but there 2 I know are out there. I hope this helps.

Apparently they've already forgotten the 10 inchers they put in the Corvette's doors.

Same old same old except, a Bose first, they are actually putting tweeters in the G35. Funny how other sound companies have done this for years.

They would. Bose has never been interested in accurate sound reproduction, they prefer "lifelike" manufactured (ie fake) sounds.
