The Map lights on the Rearview Mirror will not go off. I tried pushing the buttons in and out and this does not work. When I turn the car of they do not dim off either like they normally do. I've tried turning the car on and off a couple times and the lights just stay on.
Also, when the car is off the green light on the starter switch is lit. I am not sure if this is normal either. I thought the green light went out.
I think this happens to everybody at least once.
There is a *** on the lower left side of the dashboard that you probably accidentally bumped. It controls the interior lights. It is right next to the air vent
Yep, Bullit, you're right. I think this has happened to us all. Maybe it's the placement of the **** so close to the left leg. I'm not sure, but it's that darn **** for sure. BTW my mom and my sister live in Fremont. It seems to be a nice area.

I figured it out after scanning through the owners manual several times. I must have hit the **** when I was detailing the interior of the car earlier tonight. The main purpose of the **** is to control the brightness of the dash lights, and it took scanning throught the owners manual very carefully to find out it controls ALL the interior lights.
They should have reitterated this secondary function in the Rearview Mirror section too, but that would been too LOGICAL and God forbid they do that.
I was just happy there was a question that I knew the answer too.
I've been in Fremont, for about 7 years and its been a pleasant 7 years. The people are generally friendly, the population is very diverse. And there seems to be lots of corvettes in the area. Of course I usually see them when I am driving my ford ranger and not when I am driving my vette, so I don't get to do the wave as often as I like.
This is a question that should go on the top of the FAQ section since there seems to be one query a week - of course some won't read that.
But it is nice to have a definate answer to a question - rather than the should I order Z51 or F55 questions.

PM docrings1 and I'm sure he'll take care of it.
By the way, I had this happen to me as well. I figured it out on my trip home from the museum delivery.

Can anyone assist with any information on this.
Thanks,
This happened to me today too after I had my car washed. I did blunder into it in the manual too but it wasn't as clear as I would have hoped. Thanks to everyone who shared their experience with the rest of the community.
I love this forum. If it wasn't for it, I would still be going through the entire owner's manual for what I did. I knew about the dimming button, but I did not know it had a 'push' function. What GM Einstein decided to sign off on this? Both placement and function should have been re-designed. At least make the dam button CLICK to let us know we activated it.

Happened to me too, when it did I knew something was wrong so I checked the FAQ and the answer wasn't there but it was in owners manual...should be a addition to the FAQ.

I wonder if this switch is the true cause of DBS, with the C6? You go into your house w/o noticing the map reading lights do not go out, and then, the next morning you have a dead battery. Lucky for me, I was talking to my Dad about the wonders of the C6 and noticed that the map lights had not turned-off.

No, no!
Back in '05 when initially analyzing DBS and its possible causes, that was one of the first things to be ruled out.
And theoretically, that should power off with the 10 minute rule anyway, like the glove box light, which was another suspect.

Oh, okay. Was there a final verdict of the cause of DBS? I got my C6 on 3/28/06. No DBS... yet.
