Default Priority Start Install

After a full year of no DBS on my 05 I was just strickened. When installing the priority start module did anyone experience the steering wheel lockup when the battery was disconnected or any other loss of programming when the battery was reconnected? Also is the standard priority start the best unit or should I order the pro unit?

The standard PS unit is sufficient. Most memory settings are retained after reconnecting the battery, but you'll have to re-index both driver and passenger windows. I've also had to reset my sideview mirrors and had the DIC tire pressure readings go to zero (they reset themselves after driving for a while).

Make sure that battery is OK before you hook up that Priority Start. If its the original AC/Delco which came in the car, it may be a bad battery.

My 06 vert had battery problems when I first got it. I bought a Priority Start module and still had problems, all kind of screwy electrical/low voltage type things. Brought it to the dealer and they yanked the priority start module and told me it is NOT a good thing to have on a C6 because of all the sensitive electronics. Equated it to the same thing as pulling the plug on a computer while it is running instead of properly shutting it down. Said they can play havoc with the modules on the vette, and they are very costly to replace. Turns out I had a bad battery from the factory. I tossed the AC Delco battery and replaced with an Optima Red Top at the advice of this forum, and haven't had a single problem since then. I know lots of people have priority start modules hear with good luck, but the info I got from my dealer make sense to me. I've got two brand new Priority start modules sitting home that I was going to install on my other cars but never did for that reason.

Make sure that when you hook up the black wire of the PS unit to the connector you installed on the negative battery terminal that you put it on solidly. When you touch the connector a motor inside the PS unit will start. It needs to complete its cycle so don't jerk the wire off when it starts like I did. If so the unit may not work right.

My pain-free (re: DBS) period on my '05 MN6 vert was 16-months. After the dealer replaced the battery and it failed over a weekend, I installed the Priority Start. The installation was relatively straight foreward, but follow the directions (as indicated in another response to your post) precisely. The PS activated over the past long weekend while we were away, and the re-start process worked fine. But I have asked my dealer to find the TSB mentioned in StanNH's post elsewhere and see if he can get authorization to re-flash my ECM, or whatever.

There are thousands of priority starts in use so I don't believe what that dealer is telling you. I have one on my vette and 4Runner with zero problems. When the battery gets below a certain point it simply disconnects. That seems a hell of lot better than to have the battery slowly reducing voltage to my electronics. I'm sure Shop dog or someone has the straight scoop. For now I'm simply not buying what your dealer told you.......
