You will be pleasaNTLY IMPRESSED WHEN YOU PUSH TO GO PEDAL.
Well my 2001 M5 has better stearing for sure, the M5 with the Dinan package can move on a dime, and you can feel every inch of the road, very sure footed
My 2000 540 Sport with Dinan options drives like a truck compared to the Corvette. Recirculating Ball Steering sux in comparison to Rack and pinion.
I'd have to agree with your criticism of the steering feel. Anyone whose driven really good handling European, or even Japanese, sports cars will immediately notice the relative lack of feel and feedback in the C6 steering system. It does not have the precise feel of most BMW's or Porsche's I've owned or driven over the years.
Still, it's not a bad system and is one you can easily get used to. It can be a bit too light in some circumstances, but it does track well and is not bad on center if the car is properly aligned. I would have liked a more performance oriented steering system on this car, but I'd still rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10. An 8 or 9 would be better, of course.
I've never heard of any practical way of modifying this system to improve road feel/feedback.
As usual Stan your opinion is well thought out, unbiased and on the money.
Go ahead and buy it...and then come back here and post your impressions after getting it broken in and another week or two of driving. I guarantee you that any comments you post at that time with regard to the steering will amount to a footnote at most.
It took me several thousand miles before I got used to the "too-light-at-highway-speed" feel on the C6 compared to our previous C5, but now it seems entirely normal, not a problem.
On the other hand, it took me only about 1 mile to decide that the lighter steering around town was a big improvement.
