are pirelli tires good to use?
I got 8k miles on my z51 and I wanted to purchase new tires. I loved the grip of the stock good year eagle (f1) supercars but they cost an arm and a leg. Are there any pirelli tires as good as the Good Years? I only ask this because I can get the pirelli's for a really good price.

I wouldn't put tires on because you can get them at a good price. Tires that save a few hundred and make your pride and joy drive poorly are not worth it.
I have not had good experience with Pirellis but that's just me.
They have the lowest rating across the board of comparable tires on Tire Racks survey results.

Lamborghini and Ferrari seem to like Pirellis.

I had Pirellis on several Mercedes - - -good handling and a bit less than comparable Michelins - -but the greatest obstacle in using any other tire than the GY's are that they're not runflats.
If you want to carry a repair kit and compressor, or stay in a metro area with AAA membership, it's probably a good call since most folks report the non GY tires-- BFG, Michelin, etc... all ride and handle better.
It's an educated risk - - but probably shouldn't be a "price-driven" decision . . .
Just my .02 - -

I think the pirellis are more for looks. They are usually like twice the cost of the average tire. Also they make a lot of unusual and unique sizes.
I think they are over rated, yet if I had the money I would put pirelli shoes on my vette.

i have p zero nero's on my acura cl type s. they grip pretty well, but when the weather gets cold here in Pa. they get flat spots on the bottom when the car sits overnight. usually takes about a mile for the tire to get back into round.

I had P zeros on my last two C5's. High mileage, good handling, good ride, but they were not run flats. I bought them on the recommendation of Tire Rack because I couldn't get the Goodyear OEM tires to fit on my larger Weld Wheels.
My opinion: If you travel out of your immediate comfort zone, I would spend the money for OEM run flats and not risk the hassle of getting a flat with no spare.

Pirelli are all season tires that work great on everything from luxury sedans to average mini van. They are recognized as one of the world’s most reputable tire manufacturers. I have been in Pirelli's fan club since 2005 when I first bought them. Even used pirelli tires are good.
