Default C6 Windshield

Rock hit my windshield and now is cracked over 8 inches. Called a couple of glass replacement companies and they are telling me that OEM glass is not available until later this month or next month as GM is testing a new vendor - and there is a National backorder - only option is aftermarket glass. This is on the base windshield as I did not get the upgrade to HUD or GPS - just wanted a 6sp with Z51! I called the a local Chev dealer and got the same answer. Anyone know what the heck is going on?

Thanks, Ron

Maybe, but it just might be BS so they can install a cheaper windshield and bill your insurance for the GM price, or some similar trick.

The W/S is an important structural part of the car, I would go to great lengths to be sure of getting the correct part and proper installation.

I got a rock chip on my 07 Z06 on the way to Carlisle. I washed the car when I gott there and the windshield cracked. The following week a new one came into the dealer, but the box had a hole in it and it was broken. The following week they got another and it was fine. My dealer also said they were on national backorder, but he was able to locate one. I stood there and watched them install it, they did a great job. I would NOT go with an aftermarket windshield.
Two tips for you....make sure the new one is perfect before they remove the broken one (check for scratches), and don't get on your car for 48 hours after it's installed due to the torque. Good Luck!

Also Ron, to add to what VetteJoel said make sure they install NEW weather stripping when re-installing the new windshield. I had a tech re-install my old stripping and had a nasty leak due to it not sealing properly with the new glass.

best of luck, i had mine replaced on my Z and have also had mine replaced on the C6 recently as well. As long as they use OEM parts and know what theyre doing youll be fine.
