Default Latest Z06 diff info

Here is a little info regarding a change in the Z06 differential. I hope these are a bit quieter, I'll bet the whole stack has more clearance.

Subject: Rear Differential Clutch Pack Stack Height Change - keywords axle bind chatter shudder #PIP3892A - (09/11/2006)

Models: 2007 Cadillac XLR

2006-2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PI is being superseded to correct models. Please discard PIP3892.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
When replacing the rear differential clutch packs in a 2006-2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 or 2007 Cadillac XLR, technicians may find a 5 plate clutch pack, also eSI will call for a 5 plate pack, but service parts come as a 4 plate pack.

Recommendation/Instructions:
A change to carbon fiber clutch plates in the above models which increased overall thickness makes it necessary to reduce the stack to a 4 plate pack. The correct stack using the new designed plates will be a 4 plate pack and will not effect performance.

Note: This change does not apply to the normal Corvette or XLR-V.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
