Does the "need for speed" ever return?
We just picked up our LMB coupe at the museum this past Friday
and we've both noticed something weird has taken over. We no longer have the urge to be the fastest one in the left lane passing everyone and weaving in and out of traffic to 'get there first'. When DBF is out driving in his service van for work, it's lead foot/speed demon as usual, but as soon as he slides behind the wheel of that car, he's a changed man-calmness and patience seem to take over.
It's happened to me as well...Today on a stretch of 1-75 where it breaks out from 3 lanes to 5 then back down to 4, where my normal everyday drive speed on the way home from work is usually a cool 85 mph--minimum--I happened to peak at the HUD and *gasp* 67 !?!?!
In the middle lane? BEHIND traffic? With no anxiety or desire to 'go around' the idiot yapping on the phone in front of me who's doing the speed limit? Say it isn't so!!!
I find I just LOVE driving this car and if takes me 2 hours to get to work, well then, I'll just have to learn to deal with it!
Are we in a honeymoon phase here? Will my desire to "pass on the right" ever return? Please tell me I haven't turned into a complete wuss!

Maybe you're just subconsciously "babying" the car, I've done the same with all my vehicles when they were new. It'll come back with a vengeance, lol.

If you're like me then you've already noticed the C6 is SO fast -- compared to previous iterations -- it wouldn't take long to rack-up 12 points.

After feeling the incredible torque, relishing the fabulous exhaust note, relishing, simply enjoying the entire C6 Corvette experience?
You're no longer in a hurry to get someplace, anymore.
I sure ain't.
I vasilate between cruising and driving in a 'spirited' way.
I also like going into the garage and just looking at it, thinking about it at work and having folks tell me 'Hey man, that is a beautiful car'. I have worked (a regular 40 hour a week job) since I was 13 years old and it is the bright spot in my life.......besides my wife.
It's all good!!
I am so glad that I let myself get the car, I deserve it!
Drive it fast, drive it slow......... own it and enjoy it!

You start off this way, then the "need" bites you. First you add exhaust and headers, then heads and cam, then the supercharger: HP goes from 400 to to 441 to 521, then finally 690. Then you say, what else can I do?

With the knowledge that I can outrun everything except a Motorola, I don't have to prove anything anymore...
Yes, Grasshopper, when the time is right, the feeling shall return to haunt you again. I was the same when I first began my experience with the C6. Very conserative for the first few weeks, then, as the Spring sun began to warm my head, the "need' returned.
Want to be fast? Be Fast!
When the time comes to be fast, will you be sharp and confident or,
will you be over your head, nervous, waiting for something bad to happen?

Im the same way. I actually go slower on average in this car than any other car I've owned. It was the same when I rode motorcycles. I attribute it to 2 things.
1. I know I'm faster than 99% of the things out there, and am happy with just that knowledge.
2. People around me know I'm faster than 99% of them out there, and I'm happy with that knowledge.
Seriously, there is no reason to flaunt it when its obvious. I also think I'm a big target when I drive because everyone stares at the car, including the LEO,

To quote the comic books, "with great power comes great responsibility"
Before the Corvette, speeding in my Tacoma felt safe & in control. It doesn't go fast, and there is no sense of danger I would push it too hard.
With the Corvette, I know I am a toe tap from being crazy out of control, so I am actually more chill in that car when sharing the road with a bunch of other traffic. I never know what kinda havoc I might unleash on the world if I lay into it, so I just chill & think, "naw, maybe somewhere a little more discreet will I romp on this thing".

I'm hoping vengeance takes pity on me....now if only the LEO in Indiana had done the same thing

Who told you?
