I don't have the In dash navigation that comes with the C6. My question is, what other reliable navigation systems would be worth that is $1,000 or less. I don't want an in dash navigation either. Any recommendations would be helpful.

I can strongly recommend the Garmin family of products first hand as I've owned three of them over the years.
I really like the Garmin Nuvi 360 for around $700. I CAN ENTER A DESTINATION WHILE MOVING!! I cant do that on my '06 Vert's Nav system. Also, I like the graphic representation better on the Nuvi. The Denso Nav gaphics are too "stick figure" like. I will say that after having both for a little while, the Vette (Denso) Nav system has proven more accurate.
The Nuvi has taken me down several dead end roads...FYI
I have had a Garmin Quest II for a couple of years. It works great. I have never been anyplace that was not on the map. It is very easy to move from car to car....or even to a bike. It is small and very compact yet easy enough to read. This is the only one I am familier with and I have been very happy with it.

I am a fan of the Quest by Garmin. Are there drawbacks, yes, it is small and has limited memory...two to 5 states worth depending upon the amount of population or density of the states..Carry a laptop for long trips of many miles.
advantages...small. You can also use it for bicycling or hiking.
Mine is an early Quest, so it must be a Quest 1.

I have a built in that came with the car.
I also have a Garmin StreetPilot 2720. I sometimes take it in the Vette. To me it is faster and easier to set locations. It also verbally names the turns onto street or avenue. The one in the vette only gives commands like right turn ahead not saying the actual name of the street.
I've used several of the "portable" navigation units and I will have to agree with V Vette that the Lowrance I-way 500C is the best all around unit that is currently available. They also make a 350C which I assume is a smaller unit with many of the same features. Updates can be downloaded directly into these units from the Lowrance web site. As an added bonus, it plays MP3s.
