I've seen adapters that plug a rechargable 9V into the cig lighter so you don't loose settings....... not sure that would do the trick though on our cars.
There are some guys on the forum who are really savvy about this and I'm sure you'll get good information. When I had my battery disconnected, the only issue I had with saving settings, etc. was window indexing. That took about 30 seconds and I was good to go.
Is there an easy way to keep the computer powered up when changing the car battery?
What are you worried about loosing? As far as I've experienced the only setting that gets lost is window indexing and that only takes 6 seconds to restore.
I've disconnected the battery three times for about 10-minutes each time with no problem. All settings, as far as I can tell, were saved. Maybe some radio station preferences lost - not sure.

Radio settings are not lost due to flash memory. Only the window indexing goes. Easy and fast fix.

The indexing takes less time than installing a by pass 9V battery.
The lighter charger won't work. I hook a battery charger to the + cable and the other to ground and have a person hold the + cable while the old battery is removed.
Cant figure why the computer would lose indexing info... they drop the same distance each time. How do you reprogram and what happens if the shop doesnt do this and someone slams the door shut with the window full up?

From the owners manual:
Power Window Initialize
After a power reconnect such as battery replacement,
the window index-up feature will not function until
the system is initialized. Once power is restored,
do the following:
1. Close the door.
2. Raise the window by pulling up the switch.
3. Hold the up switch for three seconds after the
window is closed. Release the switch.
4. Hold the up switch again for three seconds
and release
The window will hit the gasket and not close. You could damage the window.
Dealer disconnected mine and 2 functions had to reset themselves after driving as they went to zero one was the right TPS monitor and the other was a mileage can't remember but eventually both of these reset themselves while driving.
