Default Wipers Scratching Windshield

Has anybody else had problems with their windshield wipers leaving a ever so light sweep (arc) scratch across their windshield? I have an 05' (purchased in Sept. 05'), after about a month I notice a ever so light sweeper scratch following the arc of the windshield wiper on my passager side. I had only used the wipers once during a heavy rain from the dealership to my home. The arced scratch was about 18" to 20", a very light scratch. You can feel it with your finger nail. The scratch was deeper at the lower edge of the windshield at the wiper, then guadually got lighter going up the windshield until it disappeared at about 85% of the wiper arc. I mentioned this the dealer, my next visit, and the wiper was checked and nothing appeared to be wrong with the blade.

I use glass rubber compound/polish (about 2 hours of hand rubbing) and the scratch remained but unless in the right light, at the right angle, and someone points it out, it is all but unnoticable. I will always see it though, because I no it's there.

Well, quess what? This weekend I was cleaning the drivers side windshield and there was another arc scratch almost indentical to the one a year earlier on the passager's side. I compound the glass for about an hour and I still have about another hour of compounding before this new scratch is as unnoticable as the first.

This is my everyday car, and I only live a mile and half from work. I avoid driving in the rain as much as possible. I still am able to show the car in Concours Class (NCCC) and pickup first place in C/P G. This is just to let you know that I maintain above average care for my Vette.

Am I just plan unlucky or have others had similar problems with windshield wiper scratches?

About 2 months after I bought my car, my wipers began to screech and skip across my windshield in light mist at the slower intermittent settings. I tried Rain-X and it helped a little. I finally just replaced the factory blades with PIAA silicon blades at the suggestion of someone on the forum. I'm now at 19 months with the same PIAA blades and no problems. Not exactly the same problem as yours, but you might want to try new blades. They're cheaper than a new windshield.

This is more a general car problem than specific to the C6.

Grit can stick below any wiper blade and damage the windshield.
Your only hope for preventing this is to clean your blades frequently. I also wipe mine every month or so with a very small amount of Vinyl/Rubber Conditioner on a piece of microfiber towel. (I use Meguiar's #40.)

Removing scratches on glass by hand is a tough if not impossible. You need high speed buffing from either an electric or air powered rotary buffer.

Dunno.

I've never used my wipers.

Then again, I've never used my washers, heater, or air conditioning.

Ah, the life of the sunny day vert...

Sounds good, but you don't know me. I am about as fanatic as it comes to keeping my car clean. Every morning before I leave for work, out of my carport, I clean the windshield with Stoner and wipe down the body topside with Z6, I clean the wiperblades regularly with 303 rubber cleaner/conditioner. Also, the wiperblades were replaced last month when servicing. I never drive on dirt roads, avoid gravel drives, and take the roads less traveled when on trips.

After all the care I take, it seems mighty freaky to me.

I doubt that this has anything to do with your Vette. It is just something that happens when you don't clean your wiper blades often enough.
