Default Delaminated Roofs????

I am looking at a 2007 coupe. The car is out of state about 2.5 hours away. It's a early build (built in July). I am pretty sure it has the old poly roof panel with "the triple bonding" and not the SMC roof. I had the dealer pull back the headliner, and he said it was black underneath. I am getting a pretty good deal on the car (GMID and $250 cashback from GM plus $2500 from my old GM Card). Should I wait and get a SMC roof or will "the triple bonding" roof panel be fine.

The "triple bonding" is said to have cured the problem but it was an expensive fix. The SMC roof is cheaper to produce and that is why GM changed. It is 3 pounds heavier. My car was built with the old roof and I am glad it was. That extra 3 pounds does make a difference to some people.

My roof was replaced with the triple-bonded one and it has held up ok so far even in some pretty hot weather.

I have an 06 and the original roof failed after about 6 months. They filled it with foam and made a horrible mess all over the headliner on the roof. Got a replacement and it is failing now, i havent even let them install the headliner on this one..when i have time i need to go back to the dealer and see if they can order an SMC roof. Who cares if it weighs more.. i need to lose some weight anyways

i just picked up my car from the dealer today and they put the new roof on it. they had to order it, then paint it to match the rest of the body..

i asked the guy if it was the new roof and he said thats the one gm sends out when there is a delamination issue. They also replaced some bushings that were causing some creeking noises..

I hope they gave me the new roof, but i'm really not sure how i can tell if its an smc roof or just a new one with all the foam and crap?

1) Weigh it. New roof will weigh right around 24 pounds. The old roof weighs around 21 pounds.

2) Gently peel back a corner of the liner. Underside of top should be a light color for the new roof versus a dark color for the old roof.

3) Check part number on repair order. New roof has a different part number from the old ones.
