So I went to the local Chevy dealer and pick up a PF46 filter, got home and looked over my Oil Changing notes (thanks Forum) and noticed different part numbers. The notes I had showed 89036836, and the filter I picked up was 88984215. The filter I bought does say PF46 AC Delco, and "Duraguard" on it. Looks pretty small for a filter. Is this filter OK? This will be my first oil change on the vette, and I don't want to get stuck during the change. Buy the way the the SnapOn YA995 filter wrench (cup) fits the new filter perfectly. I have an 06 coupe.
Thanks
Frank
Just one more reason to change oil and filter more frequently than your DIC recommends.
.
Obviously GM knew the size of their filter when they calibrated their oil life monitor.
Say what you will about GM, but the one thing they got right was the oil life monitor. If you follow it, you won't harm your engine. Changing it any sooner is just wasting your money, it's not making your engine last any longer.
Everybody has their own opinions about the oil life monitor. Personally, I use my own calculations ( writing down the miles when changed and adding) instead of trusting the monitor. Again, that's just what makes me feel good. Also, I like the older larger oil filter.
