I am in the market for some engine bling. I already have the painted fuel rails and air intake case. I am needing the alternator cover, plenum cover, throttle body cover and stuff like that.
I have been looking around the forums and some are saying that stainless is not very good (scratches easy) compared to chrome. Yet I have been checking out Creative Engine Covers website and notice that they don't really offer very much for the C6 yet. The things that they do offer seem to be much more expesive compared to the stainless parts.
My question is this.....
1. Is it really worth the extra money to go with chrome VS stainless? after all this is going to be under the hood so how much scrathing could they get.
2. Any other place to purchase chrome engine stuff besides Creative Engine Covers so I can have more selection?
3. Can any of the C5 chrome from the CEC website fit on my C6?
I purchased all my Chrome Caps and Alt cover from Ed, you can take a look here, www.nakidparts.com. Very good quality, price is not bad.
I wanted more after the chrome from Ed, and looked around quite a bit, and ended up buying all the Chrome engine pieces CEC had to offer for a C6.They are very nice people, expensive, but very good quality am very satisfied with the look of my engine compartment after getting the chrome, painted rail covers, and a painted hoodliner.
My suggestion would be to start off with some things from Ed, and see how you like it, and if decide you want more, get some more. You don't have to get it all at once.
Creative Engine Covers will be coming out with many more parts for the C6 very soon. They just bought an 07' to use for a "test mule" so it won't be long before their new bling is on their site.
I started with stainless steel on my C5. Then I discovered Creative Engine Covers chrome. It's a huge difference over stainless. Deeper shine, thicker look and not as easy to scratch. Having learned the hard way on my C5, CEC chrome was the way to go on my C6. Although it doesn't say so on their site, the C5 cap covers all fit the C6. The only one that didn't was the windshield washer fluid cap, which I got to work by shaving down the stock plastic cap a little. CEC is expensive, but you get what you pay for and they're just the nicest people to deal with too.
1. All the chrome on my C5 was from CEC (the best). Much of it replaced SS which scratched badly.
2. In terms of quality, didn't find any of equal quality.
3. Condition of selling my C5 was that I didn't change the engine bling, so I can't answer your question.
Also a note of caution if you're considering chrome in the engine: don't use it with a underhood liner from CMS. Quality is great but it's not chrome-friendly. Read their disclaimer. Mine was the 4th one on a vette ruined (see pic below) because of sun reflections (another Archimedes principle) at car shows.
As many know I have chrome caps and stainless alt, booster and fuse covers (best of both IMO). They are a 1/3 the cost of the chrome / and weight a 1/10 of chrome plated steel. Mine look as good as I installed them 8K ago. As long as you dust them off prior to polishing they are fine. You can't open your hood full of grit and dirt and rub that into your stainless Also my stuff is custom etched into the stainless and will never rub or polish off
I can remember ordering all the chrome pieces for my 01 Z06. After installing everything it just did not look right, especially on a Speedway White Car. I have seen many C-6's with all the bling and it really looks great...... I can not remember the outfit I ordered all mine from they were in Bowling Green I believe but now out of business. All I know is it cost me to return as I had everything sent next day.
