enter the "dot matrix"
Just wanted to thank everyone for showing me the light......ah darkness. After asking if I should tint my windows and receiving all the positives I went ahead and did it. 20% (dark) sides and back. It looks awesome on my LeMans Blue and the tint shop did an outstanding job. This is my 3rd car they tinted and they didnt dissappoint. They even did the "dot matrix" part perfect. The tech mentioned the "matrix" before I had a chance to. He said it may not come out perfect (but it did) and he mentioned all the tricks that you guys here on CF talked about. He said the best way to get it to stick is to use good tint (I have the newest 3M non metallic) and spend time working it in. BTW if you have your windows tinted with metallic tint it will interfer with the AM/FM reception. He said our am/fm radio antenna is inside the rear glass and a metallic tint will hinder reception. Maybe this is why some people are complaining about the FM reception.
My NAV equipped car doesn’t have any issues with the metallic tint.
The NAV antenna is in the front under the dash.
Tint on the rear or side windows won’t affect it.

The AM/FM module is in the rear. What is located in the rear window is the rear window defroster. Better check that to make sure the tint shop did a good job. Turn defroster on to see if it still works. If you were to install one of those glass through windows then you would have to cut into your tint (maybe not yours).
Is 20% the darkest? (only lets 20% light in?)
I got the darkest can't remember formula it lets the least amount of light in. (limo tint) Cannot see anything in dark parking lots.
You can put your face up against rear window and still cannot see inside.
Using the defroster will in time cause the tint to delaminate, (bubbles). Use this feature wisely.
I’m pretty sure that’s just another “tint myth” or the result of a bad install.
I’ve had every car I’ve owned since the 1980’s tinted and I live in a climate that gets the full spectrum of climates from 100+ to below zero w/snow.
Not all of my cars had the luxury of being garage kept either.
I never had a rear window bubble around the defroster area.

Thats the reason, its a RADIO SHACK thermometer! It doesnt work! Just kidding, If your garage has a tin roof that explains it. At least down here in South Florida we get a nice ocean breeze when its hot.
Swancoat,
The heat from the filiment causes the glue to seperate from the tint, in time this will create a cavity.
This was a problem with cars that did not have a timer on the system, the Corvette will turn itself off. While I am not saying that everyone's tint will bubble I am just giving all a heads-up.
I was an installer years ago.

I have another car that was tinted back in 1993 or 1992 but it is still holding up to date no bubbles nothing. It's a good tint job and it will last a long time provided you get a good installer.
