I was quoted $290 for an alignment if it did not need any parts. This was from my local Chevy dealer. I have been in the auto repair business for 25 years and I can not believe they charge that much for an alignment with no problems just normal adjustments. Am I wrong?
I have a question. The C6 wheels are different being there's no lip at the outside of the wheel like the C5. The spokes on the C6 wheel come out to the end of the rim just as high as the outside of the wheel/rim. My question is how do they hook up the heads to do the job without the wheel/rim not having that lip?
First off labor rates vary all over the country.Secondly a Hunter alignment machine is about $50k.A Hunter GSP 9700 balancer is like $10K.Depending on what type of alignment machine you are using it takes about an hour to set it up,Mount sensors, calibrate etc...When we do alignments we do them at a reduced labor rate. The Chicagoland area is about $100 per hour.So although $290 seems a little high to some people, the labor rates vary all over the country.Obviously you will pay more in a Metropolitan area. You also must remember that when you bring your vehicle to a dealer you have techs that have more experience than a kid just getting into the business at a discount tire store. No offense it is just how it is.
Well, I must have won the alignment jackpot. Took my '05 C6 in because the front tires were wearing abnormally at about 14,000 miles. Went back to pick it up - alignment and two new Supercar tires. No charge, and an apology from the service manager that I was inconvenienced. He has my business for the next couple of decades or so.
I just paid 160 Euro ($192) at the GM (Opel) dealer here in Stuttgart. At least it was done right - I can really tell the difference around road imperfections and high (very high) speed stability. I'm hoping I got what I paid for - it seems it!

My dealer quoted me $240 for an alignment. They said it would cost $120 to put it on the machine and check it. At the end they test drive it, said it didn't pull, which it didn't, and did not need an alignment. There was not charge for that.
My local GY dealer with some brand new gee whiz start of the art lazer alignment rack quoted me $89. But I'll get a 10% military discount, so I could get a 4 wheel alignment for about $80
Keep looking.
Tom
Why the Military discount? Looks like you are in the Air Force (civilian's in uniform) - relax just kidding. Retired Navy commander (Dec 03) - just playing.
