Got home last night after 5 hours driving home from the NCM pick up of my 07 Black Vert (Z51/3LT/mn6/etc). I have discovered two things about the vette.
1. Like Sammy Hagar - I can't drive 55. Lasted about 175 miles then I had to go...
2. The car is too refined. Smooth,Quite, and well behaved. Whats this? This is supposed to be a Sports Car. I told dad (who was following me) that it was like a 6 speed Cadillac. I was worried about the Z51 pkg being too rough. NOT! The car drives way too smooth. For those of you worried about ordering the Z51, don't.
I can remember riding in a vette for the 1st time. It was a 69 I think. That was a BEAST. It was what a vette should be. Loud/obnoxious/ and a handful. (Kinda like my 427 Cobra) THAT IS WHAT A VETTE SHOULD BE!!!!!
If you haven' already found out, you will find the Z-51 can be rough depending on the road you are on. Most of the time it feels smooth, until I get on those rough & tumble roads away from civilized society.
ride like a 6speed cadillac...hardly! cadillacs generally drive very "mushy/cushy" on the road.. they have a lot more body roll because of the soft suspension. My 07' z51 coupe is a smooth ride, but you feel all the bumps depending on the road. I'm sure if you are used to driving rough sports cars the vette probably seems like a cadillac. But I'm used to driving in yukons, escallades, and denali's all of which ride very smooth.
Congrats on the new vette and NCM delivery. There's no better way to take delivery.
The Z51 gets a bad rap. I find the Z51 is even more refined than my 03Z06 which had the new 04 Sachs shocks. I found even after I changed the rear sway bar to the Z06 bar that I'm still looking for a more firmer suspension. The extra .8" of suspension travel over the C5 really changes the character of the C6 Z51 vs C5 Z06. I'm now considering the Z06 shocks and if that doesn't do it I'll add the Z06 springs.

It's your car. Break it in ...or not...any way you like.
It's not a sports car. It's a GT. An Elise might be the way to go.
The Z51 is smooth. Any references to it's being "rough" or "harsh", invariably by non-owners, should be taken with a grain of salt.

Good luck with the new C6.

I know I have not driven this very much yet but I get the feeling that you know what I am talking about. Love the car, just not raw enough.
Congrats on getting your car. I've been told that for "interior noise" the convert is the quietest Corvette model. Something to do with not having the "Hollywood Bowl" rear window I hear.
Congratulations on your new Z51 and NCM delivery is icing on the cake.
I picked up my Z51 3LT auto at NCM on 9/14. My ride home was about 9 hours and I could not keep it under 55 either. I was good for about the first 50 miles on back roads but once on I40 east, 55 was not practical.
My wife was apprehensive of driving this long in a Vette. My first Vette was a 1968 coupe (only option was A/C and tinted glass, no PS or PB). I purchased and restored this car in 1975 and drove it occasionally until I sold it 2001. This was my wife's only experience with a Vette (she drives a Lexus) and she did not enjoy it. She drove it once, got to the end of the street and came back, it was too hard for her to steer at low speed.
We both enjoyed the 9 hour ride home. It was mach better than I had expected for a Z51. She has even driven it since and had no complaints at all. This is a fine automobile!

Congrats on your new car and enjoy!! I like refined, well, inside at least. I like it nice and quiet and civil. On the outside I like it obnoxious though, hehe. Hey if its not loud enogh for you there is always exhaust systems and other mods to make it as crazy as you want.

Hey Bill,
I felt exactly the same way driving my '06 Z51 coupe 300 miles home from the dealer, I was actually feeling a little disappointed in some way I couldn't, and didn't want to, quite put my finger on. The good news is that you get used to it after awhile, and the car will feel more "beastly" the more you drive it. The first time I punched it coming out of a corner I almost wet myself! This car is a rocket, and gets more beastly every day as I slowly explore the car's and my own capabilities. The Z51 C6 is much closer to an exotic than either a muscle car or a "sports" car, and you WILL learn to love it.
If you want a beast.... get a Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe w/ 427W
Roush engine (550 hp). The exhaust note of this beast should not be heard in a small town at 2 A.M. You can not sneak-up on anybody in this ride. There is no left elbow room in this car, as my left shoulder was against the driver's door. Superformance Coupe is more of a basic sports car than the C6 Vette, a through back to the 1960's. It was a real hoot to drive. Total cost after adding engine and tranny is almost $90K. But, I would still go with the C6 Vette. I do like my creature comforts. I could get a 505 hp Z06 for just under $75K. The $20K difference makes the Vette more appealing, IMO.
Way And I envy you having (or had) a 427 Cobra If you don't sill have it - why not!!!
Replica and I still have it.
"Try the B&B Bullets exhaust - that will make you like your new "Too-Refined" C6 a little more than you already do." already on order should be in this week.
"I think he meant it sounded like a cadillac"

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
