Repaint question
If I were to get a hood repainted VY how close do you think they would be able to get it to matching the rest of the car? Who would I be better off going to, dealer, or private body shop?
Thanks
PS: How much different would a VY hood off of another C6 be to mine? An '06 to an '07 match.
you can line up 10 vy yellow cars, and chances are they will all be different. straight on, they will be close, its the angles and contours you will have to be concerned with. different batch numbers, temps, mix time, tons of varibles dictate this. a huge panel such as a hood will never be able to be panel painted, especially with the tint base on the yellow. watch the greens, golds reds closely. it will have to be blended, i think you have a better chance with a body shop, they may use many different suppliers if a problem should arise, i wouldnt be surprised if they lay-down 10 samples. APPROVE THE TEST PANEL BEFORE APPLICATION.......LOOK AT IT IN THE SHADE, AS WELL AS NATURAL SUNLIGHT......i speak from experience, trust me on this one.....good luck

A private shop is your best bet, but be sure they truly understand the paint. For one, it is a 3 stage paint, not 2. Matching can be done, but only if painter paints with a reference in front of them when they start the tinting process. If they simply apply a set number of coats, it will not be a good match. A dealership will just paint it to spec, not to match. Make sure who ever you use they use the factory paint or at a minimum the same paint manufacture. It may not need a blend if special care is taken, but a typical shop will quote a blend because it takes less time and is easier to hide any difference in tone.
Het Bro,I got Your PM!
I had my vy LPE hood painted at a private body shop, and they had to blend the front bumper as well!
The color came out great, but matching vy is a tougthing to do!
Let me know if you want the hood!
