Just wondering. Do you have a radar detector or something of metal near the bottom of the mirror? I just went through this also and found out it was my radar mount that I put under the mirror. I replaced it with a plastic one and no more problems.
Compass calibration has come up before. Both the 2005 owner's manual and the 2006 owner's manual have an error in the instructions for how to handle the Compass Variance. I think the same error exists in the Compass Calibration instructions.
Where the instructions tell you to "press and hold the left map light button", change that to "press and hold the ON/OFF button for auto dimming (left button on the front of the mirror)."
See if that fixes your problem. Use that change for both Compass Calibration and Compass Variance.

I have nothing in the car that should interfer.
I hold the button and I can choose the Zone. Do I need to hold it longer to go into Calibration mode?
