I was putting on my stainless steel letters and the place I received them from failed to put the 3M all the way to the end of the VTT so I put a little crazy glue on the tips. Well they stuck fine but I accidently got a little on the paint. ANyway to get this off, I have tried claybar and alcohol to no avail. Thanks.
They make a super glue remover should be avail at most hardware stores. Would advise to test in an inconspicuous place first. like under the front bumper
Guys,
Do not use acetone as it will attack the clear coat. Not right away, but it will cause a smudge or eventually attack the paint.
Go to the local hobby shop and ask for a bottle of de-bonder for cyanoacrylate glue. The best known brand name is Hot Stuff. Even the generic stuff will work ok for this. This will soften the CURED instant glue and you will be able to wash of the residue after the debonder does the job. Be patient as the stuff works slowly. Put dabs of the stuff on a paper towel and let it soak into the cured glue.
Be real careful with instant glue. It has been known to glue your fingers together and even your eyes if you were to splash it onto your eye lids.
The fumes can cause problems too, but the little bit you use for the letters should not be a problem.
A one ounce bottle should cost about $4 to $5. It is worth every penny compared to a new paint job........
I had the same problem only with super glue which is stronger then crazy glue.
Acetone worked great & DID NOT mar the clear coat.
As I said before just go easy & it will break down the crazy glue.
I applied it using a yellow flannel buffing cloth.
With the acetone do you just rub and then wipe dry very quick?
Yes, I put some on a yellow flannel cloth & gently went over the glue.
Nothing else worked. I tried everything from goo gone to WD-40 Acetone did the trick.
I wish these manufactures would finally get the rear lettering adhesive right & also the shape so we dont have to bend the letters.
FYI-Acetone is also good for leveling the blob on touch up paint.
Wrap a credit card in a flannel cloth, wet the edge with very little Acetone & gently go over the blob.
I now use touchup 123. No blob.

Worst super-glue story I ever heard? An elderly friend once mistook her superglue for her prescription ear drops and put some drops of the glue in her ear. Ouch! Emergency room didn't know what to do. Ended up at an ENT specialist. Not sure how they got the glue out.
I had the same problem and I used nail polish remover and q-tips. The glue was very stubborn. I finally got it off but I had rubbed too hard and removed some paint in one spot. A little touch up paint fixed that.
If you use acetone , work slowly and carefully. Don't rub too hard.
