Default Why?

My 07 C6 MR 3LT is scheduled to be delivered to the dealer on 10/20/06 - however the salesperson told me that it could be as late as 7 days? Why, if it is invoiced and scheduled for delivery, why shouldn't I be able to pick it up on the 21st - SAT? I want my car and I want it now.

Went to a Vette car show today in San Diego and saw some beautiful cars - I am so happy with my decision to go with MR. Can't wait to join the Vette driving class.

I would ask them why????

It's always a set back when you expect to get something on a certain date but then it turns out later.

Good luck. It will be really nice when you get it.

Maybe he meant that delivery could be 7 days late.

I know the feeling, but Hang in there for just a little more and you'll be driving the Best Sports Car in USA, Bar None!!!

The source for any delay is likely with Allied Transport scheduling. The GM Process is to "Invoice the Dealer" as soon as the car is eligible for transport but it may still take a few days to 'build a trailer load' and get the truck on the road. Then it is a matter of route and number of stops before they reach you. The dealer doesn't get much info about these details and has no control over them.

The rest of the time estimate is the classic 'Fudge Factor'. The Sales Guy is likely padding the estimate as he would rather you be happy with Oct 21-22 as it is sooner that 27th (20th + 7 Days), rather than deal with the angry customer expecting the 20th even though the dealer doesn't have any control over the variables for in-transit time...

Here's wishing you Miles of Smiles !

I've never seen an expected delivery date. They give a TPW - that will be the estimated production week. Then the dealer can see that the vehicle was actually built by receiving the invoice. Shipping it across country is approx 1 - 2 weeks. Take your TPW add 2 weeks, that's about when you'll see it. Those transport trucks and trains are just not accurate enough to say it will get there on exactly this date. There is more than just travel time, it has to be sequenced at the carrier and railhead. It may be waiting a few days at each place to get on the right load coming your direction.

Thanks for the feed back. I am sure it will be worth the wait, but as time draws near - gets harder to wait. You can get your expected delivery date from the dealer once the car is invoiced (which it is).

I have waited since Sept 28 so what is another week.

You know what works for me, I tell them I want another car as well. Throw them a little carrot. It will make the sales guy push the prep guys a bit. Say depending on how you do this car, I will buy another one from you for the wife.

Most dealerships cannot give you an exact date on when a car will be delivered to their dealership. Only UPS can track billions of tiny packages and envelopes while a car company cannot or will not track a hunk of metal and plastic worth many thousands of dollars.

Here in the SF bay area most US made vehicles are delivered via rail. When I special ordered my ’99 it took 17 days from the date it was built to the day it showed up at the dealer. I’m in the same boat again waiting for my ’07 being built this week. When will it be delivered? I don’t think GM knows and I’m pretty sure God doesn’t know.

The car will be loaded on a truck. They will fill that truck before it leaves the yard to head out west. If there is a problem with one of the cars on the manifest it could impact your delivery. If there is a problem with your car, it could impact delivery. If there is a problem with one of the roads they will take, it could impact your delivery. They are just preparing you for the worst case "it could happen" scenario. If you wanted your car when it was done you could have picked it up at the factory on a very specific date (two weeks after it comes off the line) otherwise you are at the mercy of the carrier.

They also have to 'prep' the car for delivery. I don't really know what this entails, but it seems that other members on the forum have expressed problems with the 'prep' time. I'm guessing it has to do with removing the protective plastic, detailing, checking the fluids and tire pressure. I'm sure there's some kind of check off list, but it adds to the delivery date.

I'm surprised they told you an exact date. They will get a notice as to what day the car is being built. Then it goes out on a lot to await transport. It may set there for seven days or more. Depends on when there is a truck load heading for SoCal. When the truck shows up the dealer will call you. This is often the first time they know when it'll arrive. Corvettes don't travel by train. They come all the way via truck.
