I cannot speak for the XM programming in all genres, but I listen mainly to modern rock, the songs they play usually suck and not enough stations. I have Sirius on my boat and is far better in quality and selection then XM. When my free trial is up I certainly wont be renewing.
I like XM--in my wife's G5, so put it in my Jeep. Not the Vette as that's a sports car, and regular + CD is fine for the little I listen. For commuting, the Jeep is of course boring, so the XM is great. I like the old time radio shows, Lone Ranger, Shadow, Jack Benny, plus the Weather Channel and listening to the Boston traffic I no longer have to drive in is worth the 7 bucks a month all by itself! XM v Sirius; Z-51 v F55; Zaino v Adams; A-6 v M-6; chrome v polished wheels...why can't we just get along...

If we all agreed and we all knew everything there would be no need for the forum.
My impression thus far of XM is that it is an improvement over broadcast radio with it's variety, however not good enough on specific genre stations to please the afficionados of the particular style they like.
For example, the electronic stations have a lot of boring "filler", and not too much inspired original electronica. You are stuck with plain old house & trance most of the time. Not enough breaks and no D&B. The "chillout" station sounds more like a wimpy light jazz station most of the time I flip over there, and does not play too much in the realm of the real cool chillout electronica ala Boards of Canada, Kruder & Dorfmeister, etc.
Anyhow, electronica is my favorite niche, and I compose music myself in that genre. I find XM's representation of that part of the music world to be an embarressment to the genre.
I couldn't care less about XM. It wouldn't matter if they read my mind about what I wanted to listen to and immediately played it... The quality of the sound stinks. Whether it's the Bose stereo, the XM broadcast, or both, I just can't listen to it for very long. Basically, I doubt I'll realize my trial period is expired until they tell me.
I can usually find enough content. It ain't the quantity that bothers me, it's the quality! Both XM and Sirius sound like they are being broadcast through two metal cans attached by a string! The tinny sound of satellite radio is so poor that it's difficult to listen to. I do listen because it beats 50 minutes of advertising every hour, but it's painful!

What happened to the near CD sound quality they were touting when they first started broadcasting? Quality over quantity please
