I was told at stereo shop that I couldn't place an aftermarket system in my 2005 C6 because it would mess up the computer of the car? Has anyone tried to install new head unit... or is this guy full of bs?
There are several manufacturers that make interface cables and boxes for the C6 to retain chimes and RAP.Come play with us in the audio section of the general forum and you too will soon have the confidence to tackle the job yourself. And yes,the installer is as yet not fully informed on the wonders of the C6.
I replaced every speaker and added two subs in the back cubbies. Crossovers in the doors as well as for the subs. New amp. New head unit with DVD, NAV, MP3, Sirius. Works perfectly.
Already had some installing done and getting the factory Nav switched out tommorow for a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 as several have in the audio section. Can find some good info there have a look see!

I pulled out my Blose and installed an Eclipse nav unit. The only thing I lost was the chimes. I also installed a different amp speakers and subs. The blose amp is still in the foot well taking up space. Other than that, all working well.

There are a few devices out there now to restore the chimes if you're interested. Peripheral makes one.
It cost me about $2500 to do front and rear Focal speakers, Alpine HU; GM chime module; Ipod integration; Sirius satellite addition; Bluetooth integration for cell phone; subwoofer and 2 amps installed. Expensive but a fairly big job to do all this. It seemed to me that it was better to do everything at once than a piecemeal approach.

Total; which isn't bad if you price out all the components and associated parts necessary to do a job like this. You can see my setup at "DIY Subwoofer" in this Forum.

So all of this work was done by a professional stereo installer. I guess that isn't a bad price for that.
